What a bunch of useless.......

Glad it's sorted now and hope it's a permanent solution - I never saw the issue again.

I would now be looking for some serious good will gestures to compensate for their
incompetence.

Hope you can now get back to enjoying it smile

ETA - Sorry I missed your earlier request for info - it was roadside assist that diagnosed & fixed mine.

Picked it up and there was no hunting on cold start up. Throttle response definitely felt sharper - fuel consumption was also noticeably better. There was a little bit of a lumpy spike when I started the car yesterday and put on the AC but it was only a few seconds and it was very hot so I'm not holding that against it yet! I think I'll test a little bit more this week to be sure but hopefully that's it cured.

Thanks for the lead!

Oh ffs...
Sorry to see this has raised it's ugly head again.

I would be speaking to BMW UK as their dealer seems incapable of achieving a permanent solution.

I've 'officially' rejected the car in an email and asked either for my money back or for a suitable replacement vehicle. Unfortunately, It will be hard to get a similar spec with all the options plus folding seats etc. Apparently the manager has raised the issue with senior management and the regional tech director (UK?) for BMW. Waiting on feedback now.

Dropped the car in with them today. They obviously want to try and fix it before throwing in the towel. They have given me a loan car and promised to pay for my daily on-street parking in the meantime.

Spoke to the technician not long ago, he says that the fault code is pointing to the smaller turbo but that there are no obvious issues with performance. Will need to investigate further but could be one of 400 possible issues! When he put the key into the computer to read some statistics, I noticed that the drivetrain issue had been logged at least 15 times in 2013. I know it has been happening before I bought the car as recently as Dec 2015 and early 2016. Is anyone here capable of pulling the full history of the vehicle?

I've really had enough with it and want something else.

Sounds like the previous owner gave up on it. I would get rid if you can.

Spoken to the techie again today. They've found that some of the vacuum hoses have been rubbing together close to some heat shielding. They can't see any obvious cuts but it's possible that the hoses are getting pinched now and again or even that there are some hairline cracks when cold.
They have also found some fouled electrical wiring that has been shorting against the heat shield, which they can trace to the current fault code.

I asked them to read the car's whole history to me and it's never had any warranty work until December last year. The fault codes re Drivetrain errors in 2013 show no warranty work and he mentioned that this can be related to the driver's door and boot open codes all at the same time. Seems like Drivetrain error can mean anything!

I was just getting excited about an F30 335i I'd seen too...

I love ours, stick it in sport+ and it's actually rather fun.

The Drivetrain error warning came back last weekend and with less than 8 weeks before SWMBO gives birth, plus a long drive to Bordeaux in early September, I rejected the car.

They tried to do me a deal on their other stock but nothing matched up. They had a newer 535d with adaptive drive but it had bodywork history due to a collision and the panel gaps didn't look right around the lights. The driver's seat also had rips with less than 40k miles so they agreed to give me my money back.

Before I left, I tried an LCI E70 X5 30d and actually really liked it. It was a bit poverty spec but I was impressed enough by the engine with the 8 speed box that I went hunting for a 40d in the dealer network...

And bought one yesterday biggrin

Looking forward to picking it up on the 20th after some bits and pieces get done. I was very happy to negotiate a 2 year AUC warranty into the deal after all of this!

Hmmm... mine has just come up with the same issue. BMW Assist collecting the car and providing me with a courtesy car but pretty disappointing given that it's only a 65 plate. Nowhere near 2 years old and only 14,000 miles.

Power has been reduced, the gearbox feels a little 'jerky'...

This sounds all too familiar.

Just had to return an Approved Used 2011 F11 520d M Sport due to numerous engine management lights and drive train malfunctions over the past two weeks since we bought it on the 5th.

On Friday it was recovered for the 4th and last time with the EML on again, the dealer didn't even fight the return and refund, hopefully getting the money back today.

Is the battery fully charged? I ask because you don't seem to do many miles and it's not unknown for a low battery to cause the car to go into limp mode. Or show a whole range of other 'fault messages' too.

new to forum yea 2lt td estate late 2017 DRIVETRAIN came up on dash went to my local garage diag in few mins sticking EGR VALVE .. reset problem went away for few weeks then car started missing limp mode .. called BMW uk .. said need to book into local BMW deale ( Douglas Park Hamilton ) to get diag .few days later getting ready to go to dealer car wouldnt start .. used a srteetwise obd reader (£12) said EGR valve stuck in open position reset which also lost the 61 sticking egr fault codes !! drove to dealer after few miles went into limp mode Dealer fitted new EGR valve as customer goodwill .. only to begiven invoice for £125 for dealer to diag fault .. total joke for 2 min job ..BMW uk wouldnt do anything on refunding as its upto dealer ... sorry it took us an hour to diag problem with ur car .then asked if id like to book car in for servicing !! Anyway car seems to be running ok and now showing 75.6mpg at steady 60 on motorway drive home .. never seen better than 53mpg on eco mode .. so obviously new EGR valve is doing its job and 2 year warranty on valve and labour so not bad for £125 for 2years running on part
