Supply chain shortage for professional sat nav
Discussion
Awaiting news on my M135i order, just got a call off the dealer, apparently it is delayed awaiting a component and all new cars are affected worldwide that have professional sat nav specced.
There's a supply chain issue (they speculated that it was the larger screen that is affecting orders) meaning that if you're waiting on a new car and have specified pro nav, you can either downgrade to business nav or wait an unspecified amount of time. Only 5 series are unaffected as they have different screens.

I'm caught up by this too.
M135i ordered in March and told mid May delivery. That changed to w/c 13th June and now no date at all! Very disappointing.
You maybe lucky in that, if it gets delayed a few more weeks after that, you might end up with a M140i instead.....aren't they swapping over to the B58 engine from July production....?M135i ordered in March and told mid May delivery. Waiting to see if I can find a stock car thats close enough in spec and switch to that.

But, you can easily find online posted 'inside info' for the SOP for the M140i/M240i as being 07/16.
Just had my dealer call and confirm that my build & delivery date was currently unknown due to Pro Nav Screens and 'other interior components' on shortage (F31 340i on order).
As soneone who works in Automotive Engineering & Manufacturing, there'll be some rather busy people at BMW right now! And some of their suppliers are probably getting a right ramming...

I've managed to switch to a stock car that was almost to my spec. Should get it next week now.
When I spoke to my the guy I'm dealing with at BMW, he said the only time they've had something like this before was after the Tsunami and the factory building DAB units was destroyed. He suggested that either a factory has burnt down or there's been a natural disaster thats affected it.

Yes, I'm awaiting an M135i too. Wonder if they will upgrade us to M140i's? There's rumours of an announcement on Tuesday.TimewarpUK said:

It will depend on what happens with all the 'unbuidable' code status cars (those with Nav option I guess) if supplies of the Nav bits is restored before EOP of the M135 sometime in June.......will they try and re-slot to supply order as a M135i or re-slot as a M140i...?
Supply chain issues seem to be a recurring problem for BMW, if you search for "BMW delays" on here there are several threads over the last few years, my 335D went from 6 weeks to 6 months because of a shortage of engines, prior to this I've heard of supply problems with the uprated brakes.
Supply chain is a common source of frustration forv amy manufacturer but you would have thought BMW would have a slightly better handle on it than they actually seem to have.

Which dates are those?aeropilot said:
Counting week numbers would indicate, week 30 commences first week in Aug, which does tend to match what most European manufacturers do when changing over production on models, the month of Aug is usually the time they do it, as it's holiday month.
Thanks, was just double checking that you were actually saying August.I'm wondering what the outcome will be from this - play the old waiting game. I'm thinking they will either:
- They give me an M135i as ordered.
- They give me the deposit back and I'll have to reorder for M140i if I want that.
- They upgrade me to M140i at same price/at additional cost.
I ordered an M235i last week and was given the option of 6 weeks with Business Nav versus unknown delay if I wanted Professional Nav. The reason given was that the Pro is built in Japan and the factory was damaged in recent earthquakes. The dealer said they thought it was a joke st first, but got confirmation it was the real reason.
Apparently it's causing major headaches for dealers as they have to go back to customers with imminent builds and tell them they've got to downgrade or face an indefinite delay.
BMW shouldn't have got greedy - dual supply channels is a basic manufacturing principle. They should just build a single model of Nav with two supply sources. Not one building Bus and the other Pro. Most of the functions will just be software anyway, so why not just standardise on one Nav?
