We're buying a used 4yr old 525d M-Sport that someone got a bit tick happy on the options list, so as a result is loaded with a lot of tech, which does worry me slightly if something goes wonky, so I'm looking to get some warranty cover.

It's elegable for the 'comprehensive' cover, but as its done 67k it jumps up a fair bit, but the cover looks to be pretty good compared to your typical used car warranty.

Anyone have any experience? Part of me thinks to take it out for a year & potentially hammer it for any little niggle & then consider a reduction in the cover, or the usual self insured warranty fund pot...

I have it and pay £45 a month for the pleasure.

Mine's going into BMW on Thursday for a wastegate investigation, so I'll see how good it is once they've diagnosed I need 2 new turbos

I've found mine useful. Comprehensive with £100 excess paying just north of £30/month on a 130i. I reckon claims have been about the same as the cumulative premium, but better for (my) peace of mind than a self-insured pot. Not had any quibbles and you can simply take it to any BMW main dealer. I believe that you have to have the vehicle serviced at a main dealer as well, given that this is an insurance product. This is different from the manufacturers warranty.

I was told as long as the place servicing uses BMW approved parts and is VAT registered they qualify.

i have the approved warranty since i bought the car at 2 1/2 years old and 60k miles (after the initial 3 yr warranty expired of course), its now 9yrs old and 122k miles, had a few bits replaced under the warranty, never quibbled about anything. Well worth the money. Only draw back is that servicing has to be main dealer. Not sure if the option of getting servicing done elsewhere applies to the extended warranty.

I've had a fully comp approved (Mondial) warranty with £0 excess for several years and it's been worth its weight in gold.
However,it is very much dependent on your dealership and your relationship with them.
I had shockingly poor service from Sytner, but in contrast, have had and continue to have, a superb experience with Rybrook.
You do not have to have your car serviced through a main dealer and I used an independent for a while-without any issues. As long as it's a vat registered garage and use oem parts and all work done is at the correct intervals and with an audit trail, there won't be any issues.
In recent years though,I've had all of my servicing via a main dealer,as they price match any Indy and I get a courtesy car!

This.

Just had both my rear bearings done - I've only got Driveline cover - and it's effectively paid for the 1st 12 months payments.

I was paying £100 p/m with £250 excess for fully comp. I was so impressed at how many claims they refused I suggested that they insert their warranty into their colon, sans lubricant.

That being said, most people seem to have overwhelmingly positive experiences with it and admittedly the dealer I used have something of a reputation for being incompetent and unhelpful.

Definitely worth it.

I had it on the 6 series (did you ever see that when I had it?) and it more than paid for itself. I had everything from replacement subwoofer units to new headlights.

Have it on my X5 I have owned from new....waste of money first few years as car was so reliable. It's paid for itself now though.

One thing to note is if you pay monthly and apply when the car is under 60k miles you can keep the same monthly price for the warranty (and cover) as long as you have it. If you renew annually cover goes down and costs go up over £60k.

I get things like brakes done at an Indy but service at a main dealer.

If you take a monthly payment policy, do they readjust the price every 12 months to compensate for increased mileage?

I pay monthly and this year it went down by 5 pounds....same cover, same car etc. I've not claimed though.....

They probably feel sorry for me since its for a CSL and they probably haven't got the bits to fix it anyway!!'

So do you need to declare mileage every 12 months?

No you don't declare milage each year. Mine went up recently, only by a few pounds, I guess due to inflation. It had been the same price for the last 4 years.

You used to have to get it serviced at BMW, but that changed a couple of years ago, now any vat registered garage can do it to BMW's schedule.

I've kept the cover going on my z4 coupe, however I'm massively out of pocket, only had a rear spring and a couple of bushes done on it. It's an insurance policy at the end of the day, it's there if needed, however I'm happy not to have needed it much.

I don't think they cover suspension parts after 60k as it's classed as fair wear to have lasted that long. My bushes were done at 59k miles.

Nope, no declaration of mileage. As above, just service it in time and that's that. To concur with above mine isn't serviced at the Dealer.

I took out a policy today on my f11 535d and was horrified that monthly payments incur a £165 p.a. premium. That is robbery in my opinion on a £570 p.a. policy.

Well, having posted last week extolling the virtues of the warranty, I now find myself waging into battle for a fault I thought would be covered, apparently not. So in answer to the OP's question......I did think it was very good, until I tried to claim !.... Time will tell.

What are you claiming for?

I'd guess that unless a caliper piston dust boot/seal has failed, they'd view this as a service item.
I've just had the thick end of £3k's worth of warranty work carried out on my 10 year old E90 330 D MSport. The failure of a DPF/cat temp sensor led to the DPF failing to regen, which in turn led to the DPF clogging up. Another temp sensor failed along with a glow plug and the swirl flap actuator.

I was told DPF's and glow plug replacement weren't warrantable items (all the moreso on a ten year old car) by those in the know, but ithe car's low mileage (sub 45k), FBMWSH and a carefully prepared "case" detailing all the fault codes, relevant data ( temperatures) and a long chat with both the receptionist and the technician charged with working on the car, prior to handing over the keys, ensured a successful conclusion.
Clearly the final decision lay in the hands of Mondial, but with a strong case put to them, the results were very satisfactory.

As others have said in this thread and previously, a good relationship with the right dealer makes a huge difference to the outcome of these warranty claims.
