E91 335d DTC fault
Discussion
Can you post up a pic of your dashboard lights ? Alternatively you could have the fault codes read. This thread might be helpful if it is the hydro unit http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=127...
Sounds like what happened on mine. Think it was the abs pump. Common fault at certain mileage I think around 75k. I believe can get a repair kit as its common. Sorry for the vagueness but mine happened about 4 years ago and had only had car 2 weeks and the garage repaired it. I had no traction control or abs.
If the lights have gone out, and then come back, I'd be more & more inclined to believe that it's the hydro unit as suggested above. Mine went at 120k miles, and was on/off for a few weeks. When gone, you've no cruise/traction/abs - it's easy enough to verify if you've a code reader - it's 5DF* (0 or 1) if I recall correctly.
If that's the case, a 4cyl car unit is cheap enough from BMW that you might as well go there for it. However, a 6cyl car is £2500+!
ecutuning (no affiliation - google it as to what they do) repaired mine - they're the best solution in my opinion, to what is a design fault on the car (but one that typically occurs well out of manufacturer warranty).
Do check codes before committing though, it could just be a dodgy reluctor ring, or dirt in the cogs/ sensors!

The company is called ecutesting rather than ecutuning. Link here http://www.ecutesting.com/
Had that failure on wife's z4 at 6 yo, 25k miles. No repair kit available and Autotest not able to guarantee a repair.
Bill of £2300 from BMW, though they contributed £1600 because of low mileage and FBMWSH.
The warning lights came on and went off with increasing frequency over a month or two before staying on.
