Hohoho

That's really interesting statistics.

Personally when I had the Giat a coupe 20VT I'd be in the 28-32mpg range but could get up to 38 mpg if I really tried.

The C5 RS6 was a sod for fuel 18mpg average on super isn't great fun when it was £1.46odd per Ltr. Worst I think was 9 mpg for a tank on the road simply congestion and best was 28mpg long runs

My drive is typically 3 miles to work, but of running around during the day and some runs to meetings etc.

Last week I went to Reading and recorded 26mpg which is pretty good for a 560hp animal and on our holiday to Italy last year the longer runs were 30+

I'm really not fussed about mpg p otherwise I'd drive a Prius or similar but run a company and I suspect my daily OCD simply moves from one part of my life to another wink

Hats off and I can see that, a performance diesel is fun the first time you put your foot down but sadly after that you wish you had a petrol.

That's how it's always been for me but maybe I am too bias towards a petrol engine.

A word of warning, you won't get over 40mpg from a 335d or 535d "using ALL of those horses on every drive" a blast across the moors in my old 335d xdrive would yield less 25mpg, the car averaged 40mpg overall but that was due to 80% long motorway runs
But the rwd only 535d is oddly more frugal than he 335d equivalent as the X drive sucks mpg.

When I say using all the hoses clearly I'm not on it every second of the drive but where opportunity presents itself then I do. I think the worst tank in 20months is 36 and that was mid winter with crippling congestion every day that week
So basically you were talking nonsense again.

i agree - tried a 335d with x drive, so fast but so boring, after 30 minutes i just turned up the radio and listened to that. My old e46 330 - was so much more interesting to drive.

Nope. Do you actually drive and use all the horses on ever part of every drive?

I fully understand where you're coming from however currently the X5 will suit my needs better than the M5

I thought about an X5M however I'd be looking at low teens at best average and even with my history I refuse to live with that.

I've no doubt after a while I'll miss the V8 however I think there's something about a very powerful diesel, the torque is amazing and aside from the noise they do push on a bit. The X50d is just over 5 to 60 and limited to155. It's also apparently 13.8 to 100mph so no slouch (albeit the M5 is 7.8 to 100mph yikes )

Again, I appreciate it's the devil's illegitimate live child but if you're going to have a diesel at least have a fast one wink

Fair play beer

The M5 is astonishing to 100 for sure and I would think pretty much anyone would miss that to be fair, I really like X5's and I do see the appeal of the torque filled 50d engine certainly, I just think petrol engines tend to offer more reward/depth overall.

My 2008 335i (auto), with 117k miles on the clock does 32mpg cruising at 80 mph on the motorway. Not bad for a petrol! smile

My E92 335i Auto has averaged just over 32mpg over the last 800 miles. The 330d I traded in was showing just over 38mpg on the day it went.

Why do 335d threads always turn into MPG threads... Enjoy the car for what it is!

Mostly long-distance motorway journeys I'm averaging 40mpg and drive it damn hard, lots of triple-figure cruising, laden with kids + junk etc. It's the right choice for me although I miss the sound of a Miltek'd V8 - that it will never compete with.

Not getting enough from the handling for an Msport+ car - it's biggest let down - I opted for the Bird's B3x suspension kit, and put non-RFT MPSS all round. DMS map to 740nm/390hp and she'll do a 4s 0-60 in the damp, according to the 'M Laptimer' App using data from the iDrive. It took that to turn it into a diesel that I can have a bit of fun with and keep longer term.

So there you have it, a diesel can be fun and keep tabs with an M car at legal speeds, but not as it rolls out of the factory. It's perfect as an enthusiast's daily workhorse but I'd still swap it for my brothers DMS stage 2 F10 M5 biggrin

How much was the 390bhp DMS remap?

Any impact to mpg when driving it normally?

What impact to insurance as this is a 25% power enhancement

Have they raised the rev limiter to 6,000 from 5750 rpm?

Does it work better with premium derv?

HoHoHo, you must commute on German autobahns with no speed limit!thumbup

I live near the M3 with 50mph average cameras and use that and the M25 with variable limits (J12 to J10, invariably no more than 50 on a good day) every week and my Z4 Coupe is averaging the right side of 30mpg!

Looks like petrol is the way forward (certainly is for me)! laugh

For me I've only ever gone diesel for covering 30k miles a year in because of the perceived economy, maybe wrongly I just see a diesel as something you buy to save a little bit of money.

A twin turbo petrol will still offer the low end/mid range shove of a diesel and the strong performance yet it will sound much better(at idle/exhaust noise).

So why would you go for the diesel apart from the MPG.

Just been watching this thread as I had an encounter with a 335d a week or so ago in my Polo gti (the new 1.8 turbo one) and was quite unimpressed as I was under the impression they have massive torque? Not sure on what year it was perhaps not the latest one? (I'm not really into bmw's)

Best case scenario is I have 210 bhp (they seem to put out a bit more than the book figure of 189bhp) and 236ib/ft. I know I have a weight advantage but I was expecting more as the thing must have been mapped or tuned by the amount of smoke/noise it was putting out but it only pulled a length or two and that was uphill!
