E46 318ci convertible
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a 318ci convertible which seems sluggish and when I slow down it some times wants to cut out I have disconnected the MAF sensor and it doesn't want to cut out anymore so seems like a stupid question but could the MAF sensor be faulty and needs replacing.
Thanks for your help.

If you have the presence of mind to disconnect the MAF, and it cured the issue, I think you know the answer yourself already!
They get dirty/old/faulty and stop reading correctly. Thus sending the wrong air/fuel mixture into the engine, thus making it run badly or stall at low revs.
Without the MAF it'll run on a basic engine map. It won't go wrong, but it won't be as efficient either, so a slight drop in power or fuel economy is to be expected.
Also worth bearing in mind that it could be a couple of unrelated issues that are causing symptoms on your car.
