Bought a Pela pump as I like to change the oil pretty frequently on my E61 (LCI) and it increases my health and safety scrabbling under the car on the drive! It didnt extract more than 3.5L so it looks like it doesnt get proper access through the dipsticks on this car - can anyone else confirm that please?

This will have been an expensive lesson as I put 8L of Castrol Edge in before I realised it had failed to get enough out - rather a flash flush!

Not sure about the pump you mention, but I use a suction pump, as do main dealersa now and it should remove almost all of the oil as long as the oil was up to normal working temperature before you started, and the tube goes right to the bottom of the sump through the dipstick tube.

I have the Sealey pump and if the oil is not hot, it struggles with pulling it out, but warm, its a godsend, especially off a proper compressor airline.

Pulled 3.5 litres out of 8L before sucking air. Only one very definite end stop felt pushing it in - no curling 'round in the sump etc. Its a top oil filter car so maybe unsuitable?

I can't say I've done an e61 but on an E39 derv with the oil up to temp and a jack one side to tilt the car slightly pretty much all of it came out.

I've used the ones that have a manual pump handle on-top to pull the oil out, it worked a treat. I jacked the front of the car up to get all the oil to the back of the sump and then used it with the engine oil nice and hot... Being a pessimist I took the sump plug out and only a tiny drip came out!
BTW I know it defeated the object somewhat to take the plug out and put it back in with a new whasher, but hey ho. My car and my time... This was on a 2006 330d the M57 TU engine.

I don't miss getting a sleeve full of hot oil if I dont get the plug out of the wat fast enough!!
