A very interesting car in my view.

You sit low to ground, right at the back with the majority of the car in front of you, the best example of the flame surfacing design ethos with lots of neat styling touches inside and out.

It's a unique car and a future classic, had one for just over 9 years in that time I've changed my other car 8 times but never once thought to move the Zed on.

I've got a Z4C 3.0Si Sport (auto).

LOVE IT

Looks superb. Lovely place to sit.

Goes really well. About perfect for the roads - fast, but not so much you can't stretch its legs occasionally. Sounds really good in doing so - my mate loved the noise every time I put my boot down.

Handling is fine. Ride very firm, but its good fun to chuck about.

Like two different cars; docile and effortless round town in auto. Then use manual + sports and it can be an utter hooligan. I'd put money on you would drive this faster than the manual as its so accessible. Maybe not for the purist though...

Seems like it wont be too high maintenance, and even after 7 months it feels special every time I get in it. The driving position, looks, dash, the way you sit just in front of the back wheels with the long bonnet stretching out, just make it feel an event.

I'd like it to have a bit more exhaust note, but it sounds decent as standard, just not loud, but at the same time, the standard car makes a motorway run relaxing if need be, wouldn't want a droney system on it anyway. Saying that from inside the car, with one of the sound generator foams removed, it sounds pretty loud when going for it... I've no complaints there, but my mate said it sounded quieter from the outside than he expected - could be a good or bad thing?

I've not driven the 135, it'll be quicker I'm sure, but I'm not sure whether it will feel as special.

Obligatory pic! I'm gonna get rid of the carbon roof wrap which looks tacky. They don't need much in the way of mods these cars IMO!

I have recently purchased a z4c 3.0si and I am loving it.

As people have mentioned, it will feel special when you drive it and possibly be more fun (never driven a M135i). The thing that attracted me to one as a second car is the minimal depreciation and general appearance.

I have bought a high mileage example (140k!) but it is really clean, drives tight and has FSH, years MOT etc. So they will survive the test of time.

On the other hand a newer car with a little more performance and toys would be nice for an everyday car if you can stomach the depreciation.

Interesting post!

I bought a 57 plate 123d in January 2008 and had it for 6 and a half years (to the day)!

It was quickish, competent, etc. but not much fun (although I didn't realise that until I had sold it)! laugh

Replaced with a Z4C - what was I thinking?? (Should have tried a 130i banghead!)

123d cost me way more in depreciation than the Z4C costs me in maintenance - and I can't see an M135i being any better in that regard! Plus quick as it may be, it's still a 1 Series at the end of the day!

Hello all,

Need to make the commute a little more interesting, so thinking about a new car. Always had a soft spot for the Z4 coupes, so might be time to scratch the itch.

Have seen a nice one locally, '57 plate, 46k miles, pretty much new Bridgestone tyres all round, FSH etc for £12k. Towards top end of prices for similar cars - but nice spec, colour etc.

Update??

I owned a Z4C 3.0si for a year and can recommend it. The pros have been described very well above. In terms of cons, mine had larger wheels and it did fidget a lot over bumps, plus there was more understeer than you'd expect if you really pushed it (particularly when you consider how neutral it feels at lower speeds). I've driven a 135i and found the throttle response not as good as the Z4C, although it did ride the bumps better. The Z4C is a great all rounder though as it has a huge boot and is comfortable enough for long journeys - it really was a fantastic car.

Well, evening before I was planning to view it dealer got in touch to let me know it has sold.

Another one coming in this week - 2008, carbon black, loads of extra, 37k miles, FSH, mint cond. but they are after 14k for it. Given that it'll spend a fair bit of time in car parks, reluctant to spend that much on one due to being mint as it will soon end up with parking dings etc. They're going to let me know when it's in but have told them it's a fair bit more than I'd be looking to spend on one.

Still looking about for ideas too, but not much else very inspiring.

thanks for all comments and feedback - apprecaite

Sticks.

You know you can get a FSH 50-60k miles Z4 M Coupe for less than the M135i don't you?

Busy couple of weeks, but back on the look out...

The dealer has the 58 plate one in stock now so might go for a look-see at the weekend. Seems a bit rich for a car that will be used for commuting and spend most days in a multistory car park at work.

58 plate, carbon black, 37k, Sport model, FSH, mint condition, xenons, cream leather seats, but £14k. ?

£14k is z4m money, I bought a high mileage '07 Si sport coupe for £7.8k with fsh and have had a great couple of years using it as a daily driver, feels special every time I drive it, I never want to reach my destination, and despite now having 136k on the clock it drives faultlessly, have only done routine servicing and changed a couple of bushes.
As has been said the driving position takes a bit of getting used to, as does the rear vision, and the electric steering too but now I really wouldn't know what to replace it with, it's an absolute joy, looks great and really decent boot space for the size of car.
Get one you won't be dissapointed!

A low mileage Z4MC would be well over 20k, so 14k for a low mileage Z4C doesn't seem crazy but would feel better if bought for something beginning with 12

Cheers. Not seen any Z4M coupes for 14k, seem to be floating about 18-20k at the moment for a low-ish mileage one.

£14K does seem like a high price for a Z4C, even with such low mileage!

2 years ago I bought one with FSH (by BMW) and 54,000 miles for less than £10K!

Trying to decide if the one quoted is too dear, or if I got a really good deal? Or are they going up in value?

But at the end of the day, is mileage really that crucial so long as the car has been looked after?

Whatever, a Z4C is a great drive! driving

I only paid £8,500 for mine, all its needed is a coil and battery in 6 months. Still love driving it. In fact, I'm going to go out in it now. Like others, not sure what I'd replace it with? Maybe a Cayman S, but double the cost, and then there's the Z4MC to consider at that price!

I've had my Z4C 3.0 SE for a couple of months now- still loving it and just got in from a 50 mile drive that was just for the hell of it!

Being the SE model, although the 17 inch might arguably not fill the arches as well as the sport, the steering feel is better and with the non m-sport suspension, its more compliant for british roads but still firm and sporty.

Back in 2006 when all the car magazines (EVO etc) were road testing, BMW supplied an SE instead of a sport model.

Fantastic cars with little to no depreciation and feel special to drive- the sport button sharpens up throttle response even more and hardens the steering up. Lovely!

For that mileage, the price is right if the condition is good. A BMW AUC car would be £16k.
