Is Chrono worth it ?..will I use it on the road ?
Sports exhaust.....is it a must have?

My dealer hasn't asked me to spec yet, did you get any discount??? I have had Chrono on both my 2.7 Boxster and My 911 S so ill be specking it, you can tell when you activate Sport Plus OMG. WRT the sports exhaust again I had it on both my Boxster and 911, a waste of money INMHO doesn't affect performance and (ME being 59) cant tell the difference noise wise to justify the cost......im going for black exhaust pipes though !!

Sport chrono I haven't bothered with, at the circa. £1,300 asking price.
I certainly use the sport setting in my cars, and seeing as you get the Sport button in the 718 even if you don't spec Sport Chrono, there is no value in it for me.

Sport Chrono allows you to tweak individual settings and the like - but that isn't something I've ever used in my cars. If you like to be very specific with settings and change them around, then Sport Chrono is for you.

In any case I'll be speccing PASM which will allow me to firm up the suspension on demand if I need to.

PSE (Sports exhaust) - entirely subjective and down to your preference. I'll be speccing it.

No discount, not offered on Tax or Swissvax (car paint protection), in spite of me threatening to purchase a Jag F type which was great to drive.

Mine not spec'd yet, wanted del in March but told to take in Nov/dec so not to incur poss price increase in Jan (Brexit)

Demo 718 Boxster, had Chrono & OMG couldn't take full advantage as went from 65 to 120 well within the 20s of pushing button on s wheel.......already had 1 heart attack, didn't want another !

This will be my first Porsche so I'd be glad of any observations...........

just went on the German configurator to have a look and I would get (translations might not be accurate):
- the bucket seats
- the PTV with mechanical diff
- if money spare, I'd get PCCBs but might be a bit too much money for a Cayman
- sports exhaust
- 64l petrol tank (I assume standard is smaller not bigger)
- cruise control
- the speed limit notice
- navigation system (given that it has a screen anyway, might as well get it)
- digital radio
- Porsche connect plus also sounds interesting

I'd probably get some lightweight aftermarket wheels and use the standards on the car for my winter tyres

Will it be a daily driver? How many miles a year? What sort of traffic conditions? Do you like sporty/firm or comfy driving?

SC not needed on the road.
Forget PSE - waste of money imo. And gave me a headache in a 981 courtesy car.

For comfy ride, get PASM.
I looked at several 981 models with standard suspension and thought them a little crashy. Happened upon mine with PASM and it's a delight for comfort.
If I order another Porsche, PASM would be in my top three options.
As for others on your list?
Cream leather - dangerous!
Entry and drive - what's wrong with a key? From Porsche: "However, it cannot be completely ruled out that the key´s wireless encryption code is intercepted and used to open or steal the vehicle."
Rev camera - no experience. Sensors, yes, useful.
Rear wiper - shows you're a Porsche enthusiast. No other need for it unless you leave the car out in the one or two days of snow a year. Even then, shouldn't be using it to shift snow. Rain clears when you drive.
Folding mirrors - if leaving on the street often.
PDK - the best imo.
Power steering - do you mean PSPlus? If so, unnecessary. Standard is good.
Carr S Plat - I have them. Nice with silver body.
Rain - yes.
GT - yes.
18w - I have 14w. Having the steering column lift away when you get out is good, as is it's electric adjustment on the move.
Climate - yes.
PCM - yes.

Add:
PASM
PASM
PASM
Did I already say...? PASM
Smoking package - now a small cost option. 12v socket and cover on storage well.
Cruise control - you may not want it, but when you sell lots of buyers will.
Seat heating - as above. Goes with leather for a toasty bum.
Passenger footwell storage net - no cost option. Why not?

DJMC.........mny thx for that - most informative...so it looks like PASM then............ no to sports exhaust & chrono

But had to pay the extra for cream leather seats as did not like the red although nearly every cayman & boxster has it along with black, I just wanted something I liked plus to be a bit different.
Cruise control.....am not a fan as I like to play with the throttle + keeps me awake as am not on autopilot yet !!

& thx for everyone's comments............ anyone manage to get a discount ?.........although was offered one on stock cayman 2.7 with loads of options but preferred look of 718 plus I didn't want a white car.................

Agree with DJMC about PASM. Unless 20" wheels are a must from a looks perspective I'd go with 19" - noticeably better ride and no handling deficit (the 981 feels a bit "loose" on 18s).
I like the idea of entry and drive but the implementation is a bit naff - you have a "dummy" key in the dash which operates like a normal key once you are in the car - a bit Heath Robinson imo.

I have the rear wiper and like it - if you ever park in the open in the rain and have to reverse out of a space it's handy to see where you are going. Agree rain clears when moving though - and no washer is a bit mean.

Folding mirrors are a bit of a gimmick - they don't stick out much to start with or fold in much to finish,(on the 981 - might be a bit different on 718). Look flash though.

I quite like Power Steering Plus - but it isn't really necessary unless your OH has a weak constitution.

Avoid the camera and just go for the sensors. avoid the rear wiper as it ruins the look of the car at the rear.

18W Sports seats + creme leather adds 4k to the cost of the car - I would not do that.

OK on the mirrors.

Avoid the power steering.

OK on the 64ltr tank.

OK on the wheel and the climate.

I would personally avoid the PCM and just spec the connect plus and use my phone. that said i can see they want £800 for it the robbing bds.

from the large amount of money I have saved from the above i would go for the Xenon light upgrade, pasm and ptv.

engine sound is horrific so avoid the sports exhaust.

speaking from experience of previous caymans and your request for comfy ride I would say rethink interior colour, entry and drive - if you must, reverse camera forget it just get all round sensors, rear wiper forget it as they don't wash and shape of car means you don't need it, folding mirrors don't bother, PDK yes, power steering plus yes as its v cheap, stick with standard size wheels and add pasm if ride a priority, all the rest yes.

cruise is an option the used market likes as is the embossed headrests

There are no "must have options". Don't get carried away in the configurator or it'll cost you a fortune. Just specify the options you really want.

The "S" cars come quite well specified so all I added was cruise, Bose and parking sensors which after a bit of haggling didn't add very much to the list price at all.

I have Bose - I think you'll find many regard it as overpriced and mediocre (I wouldn't praise it that highly). I've not listened to the cheaper alternatives, but they would have to be really dire for me to think that spending £800 on Bose was a good idea.

Regarding cruise - I'm a great believer in driving my own cars - but from what I read if I was tempted down that route the adaptive cruise option does seem to have some merit.

Adaptive cruise is fine if you don't drive another car without it.

I saw one 981 S for sale where the owner stopped using the ACC as his wife's Range Rover didn't have it and when driving hers he kept bowling up to cars in front expecting the RR to self stop!

Put me off it somewhat.

If you like your steering wheel low, and it does go down low in the 981, the electric column with 14 or 18 way seats makes it east to get in and out as it lifts up automatically on exit and down again when you're seated. Gimmick, or actually very useful? I find the latter.

Don't get the point of keyless entry because you've still got to carry the key, usually in my front trouser pocket which can get uncomfortable, so I like having somewhere to insert the key. I'm not ready yet to start carrying a man-bag.

Folding mirrors are good. They're a quick indicator that you've remembered to lock the car.
