'Let me show you how to be rich, work 5 hours a week'...
Discussion
These things are always cropping up on the net, some of them run by quite successful people and yet I have an inherent skepticism about them and if it really isn't too hard why do I not see loads of people on these sites telling me they used to work in B&Q and now work a few hours a week and make £20k a month etc. I can understand many are scams essentially but there are also run by quite/very successful people...

It's literally never true. Even those at the top of the pyramid (as that's what it always is) had to knock themselves silly for years signing up others before they got to sit back a bit.I get approached all the time because of the business I'm in, and the number of people and clients we know. When you dig deeper they're never making the money they were sold/dreamed of.
The latest one is Lifetree World. Signing up thousands of muppets with promises of huge numbers, an easy life and 'changing the way we shop'. Now if you think a couple of young guys from a run down industrial estate in Manchester have somehow refined the grocery supply chain, enabling them to save people money AND pay them bonus each month, therefore stealing a march on the multibillion pound Tesco, Walmart et al with their decades of experience, credibility, direct links to sources, best advisors etc etc then feel free to send them £35 or whatever it costs to start your 'business'...
They might just stay on the legal side of the MLM/pyramid line, but their marketing is immoral, unethical and diabolical. Scouting Facebook etc for young mums and unemployed, presentations full of lies and fake celebrity endorsements, I could go on. And that's before the simple maths of the situation, in that those going in later by definition have less opportunity to do well than those at the start (not that they'll tell you that). Basically they're scum.
Money doesn't come easy.

A bit like forever living then? The only business I know where it pays to bring competitors to market.I get approached all the time because of the business I'm in, and the number of people and clients we know. When you dig deeper they're never making the money they were sold/dreamed of.

forever living is currently circling round lots of friends on FB, lots of stories of getting 'bonuses' and 'free' gifts like mulberry ipad covers and wanting to help others 'launch their own business'.
I've been tempted to ask one or two of them about it, ask them how its even a business? are they listed on companies house, or at least registered as sole traders and doing their own self assessment tax returns? if its a business why do you not get to choose your own products you sell? can you negotiate with suppliers over discounts etc...? are you VAT registered, do you do VAT returns? so many question, which they wouldn't be able to answer- simply because they do not own a business!! they are effectively part of a pyramid scheme, yes they might make a bit of extra small change at the bottom of the ladder, but the boys at top are making way waaaaayyyy more cash than you and once your friends are bored of buying your $hit, your new 'business' leaders and 'managers' wont want to know you because you are worthless to them!

Forever Living, Younique, Herbalife, ACN, Utility Warehouse, etc etc. Anyone impressed by big cardboard cheques and 'free' cars for high performers fill your boots.
I despise the way they go about things, scouting FB for impressionable people, high pressure presentations, wildly optimistic income/hours predictions, encouraging selling to (and recruiting) friends and family. There are loads of fkwits on Youtube selling the Lifetree World bks. All with the same basic presentation, same pishy claims and believing because they listened to a sales pitch and paid £35 they are now some sort of expert on marketing, supply chain management and accounting.
The top guys will make a lot of money. Another tier will make decent money but put a LOT of hours in. The rest will do next to nothing, waste their £35 and hopefully be put off this crap forever more.

They make the money from people who want more money but don't want to put in the effort, it's not always a scam, a lot of them just inspire hope and give genuine good advice and plans etc, but charge for it. They make money from people hoping it'll make them millions like some magic pill. Sometimes the marketing can be a bit on the immoral side as they'll target as mentioned before, young mums, unemployed and generally low paid employees who think they can make money on the internet by follow 5 easy steps.I've never signed up to any programs and I don't do MLM but I've seen people who do and how they get caught up in it, when you look at what they're actually earning it gets a bit questionable!! Someone used to attend the same weekly networking as me and he was well into this working for one of the big energy MLM's as well as doing the "guru" thing online.. not convinced everything he said he made was true, but he seemed happy.
Majority of them seem to promote affiliate sites or Forex. Neither of them are easy to make money in without a LOT of time and effort and treating it as a business.
All you need to know

they are no longer almost a pyramid scheme!!!

What sad is the if some of these people put the same effort into their own business as they do a mlm they have a far better chance of the lifestyle they desire long-term.
Also makes me laugh when they say they are earning 50k+\year, look at the margins then ask if they are vat registered and you quickly realise they are nowhere near
