Anyone else had occasional issues with 991 RS electrics?

Mine is now incapacitated, unlocked on driveway and not responsive to remote keys to unlock/lock/starting/anything. This is second time with similar fault, last time the alarm went off itself with no response to keys.

I have the factory lithium-ion battery fitted, always on lithium trickle charger and it started fine before failing to respond 5 mins later. Maybe the battery is culprit though.

Locking might work with fob placed against offside A pillar, not a fix but might get around part of the problem.

You might check all fuses are correctly seated and have not part moved out.

Are you using the cigarette lighter socket for charging? There is a software fix for this, for it switches off after 20 minutes on many of the new Porsche models after key removed from ignition

Thanks Ralph and Sam.

AA guy confirmed little charge in battery so some gubbins is not working. I have been charging via cig lighter as per all models previously and the Ctek lithium-ion charger did seem to be "talking" ok with battery.

We got it temporarily charged enough to start so drove it to local OPC for inspection on Monday.

There is a fix available - your dealer will know about programming it via the Gateway control unit. Will take a couple of minutes to fix. 997 & prior models were programmed differently, the default for the new cars is for all power to be switched to all the 3 sockets once key removed from the ignition.

Sam thanks for useful info, will discuss with OPC. Do you know what model year this new system was introduced?

I double-checked prior to RS delivery what 991 GT3 guys were doing regarding trickle charge and the majority were via cig lighter so assumed the same for RS. Wrongly it now seems.

Many RS's are occasional use and trickle charging (especially with lith-ion option) is important maintenance. Seems remiss of Porsche not to inform customers of this significant change.
