Hi guys, I have just picked up my 3rd BMW (other 2 have been sold many moons ago first gen x5 and 05 3 series cab) a 750 e38 il which I am absolutely thrilled with after 2 days and 300 miles in.

The car does have some niggles tv not working and no option for the sat nav which is a tad confusing, the steering has a bit of vibration at around 50-60 mph, the car didnt come with the phone which I want to track down for aesthetic reasons only, one of the rear light clusters looks very dull so not sure if water has got into it so need to establish if it needs replacing and lastly there is a lot of chrome (door handles window surrounds bumper etc which I will probably look at changing to black).

Any way the car is probably the smoothest most effortless car I have driven and the car was an absolute bargain for the amount of car I have spent on her.

Hopefully the ownership experience continues how it has started with lots of smiles, there is the expensive service coming up at bmw level 2 or service 2 which is 1k£ but I had factored that in when I picked her up.

Here are some pics of her smile

Cool barge.

I drove the more recent twin turbo 7 and the performance was incredible. I did a lap of Brands in it and it was far quicker than you would imagine.

That is gorgeous. Always fancied a LWB 7. I would imagine the TV doesn't work because it's analog rather than digital, might be worth looking into replacing the antenna to receive digital TV signal?

thanks guys I do about a 50-60 mile commute during the week and sitting at motorway speeds its an absolute delight! I read somewhere that it is the engine from the rolls royce silver seraph which the way the car gets going even the level the car idles doesn't surprise me at all.

Regarding replacing the ariel have you replaced one yourself? Just wouldn't want to take it to Bmw and haven't done something like this before? I guess the local car hifi shop might be a good bet?

I haven't done one myself but a quick Google suggests it is possible without having to change to a non-OEM unit. There are ICE specialists around who might be worth giving a call. I recall that BMW do install DAB aerials in the form of an antenna on the windscreen which then relays to the car's analogue aerial, so they may do TV equivalents, though I doubt it would be at reasonable cost.

Actual explanations seem a little thin on the ground, but here is a chap who has done it: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2...

Agree, cracking car: to get digital you'll need a digital box, google Carphonics. You may need to add aerials, although if you're not too fussed about TV you'll get better radio reception anyway.

Thanks for the link and reference have fired a mail to carphonics to see if they can help.

My car has zero rust anywhere so not sure if I am lucky or its a trait of the car but all the window edges and door frames boot shuts are all excellent.

Congratulations - second E38 750i purchase I've seen in as many days.

There's a chap on BMWLänder who's just got one. May want to swap notes! wink

I've owned a number of E38 740i's and always had an eye on another when practicality allows. Next time it will be a 750iL. I prefer dark cars but yours looks lovely. Well done !
