thanks guys I do about a 50-60 mile commute during the week and sitting at motorway speeds its an absolute delight! I read somewhere that it is the engine from the rolls royce silver seraph which the way the car gets going even the level the car idles doesn't surprise me at all.

Regarding replacing the ariel have you replaced one yourself? Just wouldn't want to take it to Bmw and haven't done something like this before? I guess the local car hifi shop might be a good bet?
Lovely car. If it has an analogue TV tuner then changing the aerial won't fix the issue. Do some Googling for Digital TV tuners. Changed the tuner in my old M3 for about a £100.

Thanks will look into that, don't suppose anyone is familiar with the wheel vibration at around 50-60 mph?

If you rule out simple stuff first (wheel balancing, warped discs, suspension bushings) in the reading i've done wheel bearings seem to be kind of hard to diagnose on these, but guy i knew replaced one front one, vibration got better, replaced other one car was completely fine?

What type of phone are you missing?, I probably still have a flip phone from a 1999 740.

Should be a Motorola V50, shouldn't it? Seem to remember that's what was in my dad's old E38.

A lot of checking and not much replacing! Still I have fbmwsh so will be reluctant to let her slip just for residual.

Yep that's a V50 - just a heads up, keep it disconnected as they can drain your battery, even the BMW programmed ones.

Thanks will do was hoping it was one of the more retro looking car phones but oh well glad I know so I can tick another job off the list.

Do you know any main differences from the v50s with the bmw software?

From memory, the start up screen has "BMW" on it, & the software stops it triggering the car to keep charging it, which wakes the car up - that's the e39 case, I think e38's are the same. Hence mines in the holder, but not plugged in, as I think there's a glitch with it. If I get bored I might give it another go, as now I'm thinking about it, that might have been the alternator dying!
