So the last zed 4 leaves the factory this month . Not that I'm wanting to change my 2011 car but the dealer told me that' there has been evidence of a healthy interest from some buyers wanting one of the last . The Zed 5 won't appear until 2018 . I don't imagine in my lifetime I'll see a sudden value increase in my car but thoughts are that certain models won't be a bad buy ? I'll wait and see !!

Funny car the Z4.

Too expensive at the lower end of the range to compete with the MX-5 and not able enough to compete with the Boxster at the top end.

Still has lots of showroom appeal, but they don't half seem to stick in the showroom at our local dealer (and that's in the South East).

Guess I just must be the odd man out as I enjoy my 2.31 E89 highline . And the encouraging admiring comments it gets .

For a reason unbeknown to me the E89 Z4 has never received much love so I doubt it will ever become sought after. The used values of E89's continue to nose dive, the exception perhaps being the 35iS but they were sold with very large dealer discounts to start with.

None of the above stopped me enjoying my 100 mile cross country 6am commute in the 35i this morning though.

Precisely .
Not many years ago people dismissed the zed3 m coupe as an ugly bread van.

Really? I remember looking at these in about 2012/13 and you needed about £20k for a decent 35i on an 09/10.

Now it seems you need.. about £17k for a decent 35i on an 09/10.

3k in 3 years doesn't sound like nose diving to me.

I wonder if some of the reason they weren't quite as well loved was misjudged preconceptions.

My Uncle who has always been a Porsche buyer (36 Porsches at last count) was a self-confessed doubter of the Zed. When he popped around recently I gave him the keys to my Z4 23i. So not the fastest thing in the world, but he came back absolutely raving about it and how he hadn't imagined it to be so well balanced and even reasonably torquey too.

I wonder how many other people there are out there who think it's just a hair-dressers car and not worthy of a drive? I think the MX-5 comparison is a bit of a misnomer.

Personally I'm going to miss mine enormously. It's been a bit like the forbidden fruit that I should never have eaten. I should never have bought it as we live on a farm and it's far from the practicality and utilitarian car we actually need. But I've enjoyed the summer in it and really don't want to get rid. The sound of a straight six with the roof down is one of life's pleasures! smile

Well after owning two Mk1 (E85) Z4 and 2 Mk2 (E89) Z4 28i I have just got one of the last E89 models in 35iS guise. Totally love the car and there isn't anything else on the market I prefer by comparison.
The 35iS is a beast although the 28i was pretty quick in it's own right.
Can't wait for the engine to really start to loosen up and the summer sun to come back so I can enjoy some rapid top down blasts.

Agreed . I had three E85 different engine size that last before my E 89 was a 3.0si facelift and it was great . I would have liked to have been able to keep that as well .

When I bought my Z4 35i in June 2014 the going rate was between £22k-£27k for a decent example and I paid just that.

I picked up another Z4 35i back in May of this year and this time round the range was £15k-£17k with the absolute most expensive one on the market up for £19k.

I'd say that £7k at the bottom of the market and £8k at the top of the market in 23 months is quite fair depreciation.

I am quietly optimistic that the prices will bottom out - £14k for a 2010 Z4 35i is really quite a steal in my opinion (and there are some crazy E85 3.0si models going for not far off this).

In 2014 you could pick up a 35i far far less than this. I went to view a Deep Sea Blue one at a main dealer - it was up for £18995.

Currently, a 2009/59 35i DCT with 50k miles has a Retail Transacted value of circa £17k. Running the same valuation for the same car against October 2014 prices gives a retail transacted value of £18k.

These things have held value like crazy!

The absolute most expensive 35i on the market was £19k? This is simply not true - they were still making them new for a start, there are/were 35i's on the AUC site for as much as £40k!

Of course, thought we were discussing 09/10 "decent examples" not nearly new discounted models at a a main dealer?

Anyway, let's agree to disagree, I'd love to see them hold their value given I have one on my drive! Cheers.

My 35iS is 6 years old next week.

Were did that time go???? anyways the best car I've ever owned even though it gave me a few headaches during the first year of ownership, but that's all in the past now it's been faultless (touch wood).

A fantastic cruiser, blistering quick and looks just right IMO.

Hopefully a keeper...

Good zed3 seem to be holding values well now so let's hope for all of us with E89 in various engine and spec will at least hold . I suppose a lot will depend on what the proposed zed5 will offer ?
