F01/F10 3L Diesel no cost mod = noticable increase in torque
Discussion
Though I would share this with everyone since I have been running my car this way for 6 months and 10k miles.
1. Remove top engine cover and remove oval air filer.
2. Strip off the loose net that surrounds the filter element. It serves no filtration purpose.
3. Remove the air filter plastic insert base until you can see the the left side air pipe entry point.
4. Remove the plastic square grid that takes up about 15% of air flow out of the engine. This can be done by using a mini screwdrive and prying off on side. It will then come off easily.
5. Replace everything.
There you go. You will notice an increase in torque and acceleration will be smoother.

1. The cover provide a very small degree of noise insulation and decoration of an ugly engine
2. The grill on the air pipe is in case someone removes the air filter and leaves fall into the air pipe.
There are many reasons these cars a detuned or performance retarded. Product extension (i.e. special editions in the future with more power) or making sure that the car is not harmed if serviced by a less capable person etc.
Its interesting that British forums always have an air of negativity and cynicism when making recommendations. American forums are a lot more positive and curious.

Thanks for your reply, not sure I was being negative but simply asking a genuine question - I have nothing against modding at all.1. The cover provide a very small degree of noise insulation and decoration of an ugly engine

Did you notice any difference in MPG? Out of interest what MPG are you getting? Iv decided to pull the trigger on a f01 in the spring so all the research starts. 1. The cover provide a very small degree of noise insulation and decoration of an ugly engine
