Did it work?

I went to the dealer and non of the cables worked with my iPhone 5S. They all said 'not recognised' and I had no music or function.

I checked my VIN out here for compatibility: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/connected_drive_s... and it doesn't look good; only covered for audio up to an iPhone 4! It's all rather confusing because I'm sure software updates must support newer phones with the Y cable.
Guess I'll receive it Tuesday

Why not just play music off a USB stick?

Well that's the next step but it's problematic. My MacBook died a while ago and I haven't replaced it as we have other devices in the house and work ones etc. However, all my music was on it and I've read that music bought from iTunes is protected from being transferred to USB and read by the car. Is that true? That's why having my iPhone connected would be a lot easier.

I have a snap in adaptor for the iPhone 5 if anyone wants one. In an E90/91.

I have a 3 yr old 5 series which I'm trying to use my music off my phone.
USB only charges the phone I've bought a Y cable which does work on AUX but limited controls.
Any other options?
Thanks
Why are you using the cable to play music?
I assume you have an F10 which will bluetooth stream the music? Then just use the normal lightening cable to charge the phone from the USB or am I missing something?

Yes you are,
Doesn't work with the lightning cable I don't have that software fitted.

That seems awfully odd. I had a 2011 F10 standard M sport with no options and it done that. I now have a 2011 335i and it streams music fine too.

Anyway I guess you have a work around now.

Thanks

Think it's called enhanced Bluetooth which I don't have.

Great news.

Why do BMW make their options list so confusing? Makes sorting out trivialities such as music really hard. frown

Bizarre to have spec'd the car with the TFT instrument panel, but low end navigation and hifi.

I was just thinking that. Who is into tech enough to pay 500 quid for the multifunction display but not want the Pro Nav?

(Especially as on a 2013 Pro nav got you the then all-new NBT system whereas Business kept you on the old CIC system).

Tune2Air dongles are excellent - I mistakenly didn't order enhanced bluetooth in my old 120d, so bought a Tune2Air and used it for 3 years.

I have full pro navigation in the 520d, which is much better smile

BMW made a complete mess of the Bluetooth/Enhanced Bluetooth thing over the last few years.

Originally Enhanced Bluetooth was standard with Pro Nav. Then it wasn't anymore. Then suddenly you could do Bluetooth stream without it again. My first F10 had Enhanced Bluetooth, as standard, because it had Pro Nav. My current one does not - despite having Pro Nav - but happily does Bluetooth streaming.

What a mess.

I can confirm that the lightning 'media' Y cable works for music (as does bluetooth for phone) with the new iPhone7 in my E70 X5 (CIC but no combox).
