My last oil change was at about 57-58,000 April 2015 at BMW. I Drive showed 2800 miles until next oil service about 2 weeks ago so I booked it in with BMW for 22nd August as I had a trip to France last week and covered a further1600 miles. I checked the I drive today after returning from France and it now says oil service due in 3100 miles, doesn't make sense to me as it said 2800 and I've done another 1600 miles since then.

You probably do a lot more local driving than the recent trip so the computer then reviewed the impact to he drivetrain and longer multi heat cycles is far better for it so extends the life a bit.

You can do it early clearly.

I've always done mine based on what the idrive says and had no issues.

Perfectly normal for the miles to oil service to vary depending on how you drive.
Mine has (f10 m5 ) gone from 19000 to oil service to 15000 to oil service fact is I have done lots of short trips and only actually covered 1100 miles , I am doing a couple of hundred miles next week and I fully expect it to go up .

If you now do a week or so of short trips expect it to drop quite quickly smile

I service mine yearly regardless of what Idrive says, don't fancy doing 12k between oil changes on these.

Ok thanks for the replies. Oil was last changed at 57,944 so had it done today at 64,093 even though it said 3000 until next oil change. I thought it would probably drop rapidly once I start doing short journeys again. £327 at BMW wow! Got Mondial otherwise would have done it myself. They picked up a couple of things to be done under the warranty so it's going back in a couple of weeks.

But no first owner would do that ditto lease vehicles of which most F10 M5's are will be.

So the car will at best have been serviced to CBS before your ownership what's the benefit in doing it more frequently than needed given the massive advances in oil. Technologies and tolerance improvements. Do you think oil goes off at 365 days? Do you think oil is degraded by 12,001 miles?

Take your own oil to their spec and save yourself some money.

Vines Gatwick suggested I did that with my F10 M5 and I saved me over £100 on the service bill.

Lol if that's the case your F10 M5 oil change at OEM dealer was the same as a 4 banger derv smile.

I bought 9.5L of oil exactly as they asked me to do.

The amount I saved was over £100 just on the oil part of the service.

Not sure what you're suggesting?

I have got 12 litres of 10-60 TWS in my garage as I ordered loads when it was on a deal a few years back when I had an E39 M5. My local dealer said they don't service with supplied oil from the customer, that was the line from the service advisor. I'm sure some dealers will do it which is great if you can save about a ton. They've looked after me with warranty claims so far so quite happy with the service.

Not getting into a debate about it, if people want to take this risk on a E60 M5, that's up to them.

If you think oil specification and tolerances have not improved in 30 years hence the annual oil change so be it.

Do you clean your fuel injection system to remove hydrocarbons or simply oil oil filter air filter fuel filter and then gearbox oil and oil filter changes? Just wondering as "on the dot" oil change is fraught with anomalies - for sure unless you've owned yours from new those owners will all have gone to the wire on the CBS or even 1k over.

For a normal car you're probably right, but this is not a normal car or engine we're talking about!
There are known issues caused by degraded/wrong spec of oil, an extra £150 (cost at an indy) every 2 years is hardly anything in the grand scheme of running these cars.

Anyway I've had my oil changed at a main dealer before with me supplying the oil with no issues. They charged me around £80 inc VAT for the labour.
