M4 Competition Package exhaust
Discussion
Hi,
Can't seem to find out for sure on the internet, but perhaps someone here knows... is the "M Sports Exhaust System" on the M4 CP exactly the same system as the M Performance exhaust system available through dealerships as an accessory for £3899 (with the carbon tips). If it is, I've driven an M4 with that exhaust and I'm not sure if it wasn't just a little too shouty.
Any M4 CP owners know if it's the same Akropovic system and if it is, do you ever think it's too loud?

Yep the CP exhaust is different to the optional M performance exhaust. I believe its a half way between standard and the optional M exhaust.
And neither are made by Akra.
Not really the MPE is a completely different design with a titanium back box and is 8kg lighter the CP is a stock system with some minor internal modifications + software changes that change the way the valves work. And neither are made by Akra.
The MPE as you say isn't made by Akra apparently it's made by Prototechnik.
When I collected my M3 CP the resident dealership genius thought it had the MPE fitted so there is quite a bit of mis-information not helped by some press reports. I found the CP exhaust sounds better than my previous M4 on cold and subsequent start up and there are pops and bangs on over run if you like that sort of thing. Best mod for me is disconnecting the HK speakers from the amplified engine noise which was always annoying and artificial.
ive got the MPE on my non comp pack M4, ive compared it to the comp pack exhaust with a friends car and mine is certainly way louder in all throttle modes. the comp pack does have a different set up in terms of the burble/overrun i believe coming from the ECU. when they fit an MPE to a non comp M3/4 there is no ecu reprogramming that will effect the sound, overrun or any of that. if anything its just a reset to ensure the valves work with it etc..
i have to say it was the best mod ive done to the car, transforms it from quiet, farty exhaust note to something that turns heads wherever you drive. If you like that sort of thing! unplug the active sound module from the amp and add a cg precision valve controller and its just insane.

I agree I did the same, disconnected the Active Sound, and insulated the boot under floor, makes the car sound great , and you can hear music when you want too.steakandchips said:
I bet the answer to this question is all over PH, but is disconnecting the engine sound an easy thing to do?
I unplugged the module which is in the L/Hand corner of the boot under the light cluster.I cut a flap in the side lining just below the lights to get in and out easy, you can not even see where I did it.
