I bought a BMW m4 last October . Since the moment I had it it's never excited me coming from a c63 coupe it had a tough task to follow . Undoubtedly I respect the m4's amazing technology ,blistering outright speed and very slick looks but a car has to grab u emotionally .

I had an e92 m3 in 2009/2910 Monte Carlo edition it was amazing .

I went to my local dealer on Saturday who had a range of pre reg m3 and m4 in a load of lairy colours , but amongst them was a limited white edition 500 e92 with 13000 miles on the clock .It looked stunning , aggressive , that Huge v8 bonnet bulge is enough to make any petrol head get excited, and let us not forget natural aspiration is a thing of the last now and all rather retro . retro is cool right ?

I sat down with the sales rep agreed a deal to swap with m4 in 5 minutes .

I pick it up Tuesday and am absolutely buzzing about it .

ive been fortunate enough to own some insane cars and I truely believe the f80 m3/m4 will go down " emotionally " as the worst m car in history

Bigman - i couldn't agree more. I have a 2012 M3 and feel there's no where to go afterwards for similar money as the F80 did nothing for me. I often go for a blast for the hell of it but would never see my self doing this in an M4. Congratulations and I am sure you'll enjoy ringing the E92's neck as it just begs for more smile.

Just sold my E92 M3 for a 991. Miss it. Really special car and engine is fantastic. Good luck with the new car.

I've had e92 M3s for 8 years, fabulous cars but I feel like a change.
The M4 I drove was a real disappointment so I'm thinking a 991 is a logical option, having owned 911s in the past.
The problem is that they are so damn expensive.
How are you finding yours?

Can understand this. I test drove the F80 M3 when my E92 M3 was in for a service last month. I was excited prior to the drive and really wanting to like the car as having had my E92 for 3.5yrs i'm now considering my options. However, within the first 5 minutes it didn't give me the same buzz the E92 did which did surprise me.

The noise for me just isn't special enough for a 'sports car', for me this is a big factor. The performance was fantastic but didn't notice a huge difference to the E92 which I wasn't surprised about. Gear changes equally as good. Interior seemed a bit more plastic, perhaps it needs the extended leather.

Anyway, like others I don't know what to change my E92 for next. 991 would be great but a big step up in price plus not ideal with a child. C63 is possible...

Really enjoying the 991 but wouldn't expect me not too. Been my dream car for so long. At the same time is it significantly better than the E92? I don't believe it is. 2 very different cars.
I do miss the ability to park the E92 and not worry about it as much as the 991 but maybe that's still the new car novelty.

I had the same issue as well with the M4 as I knew it was time to change. Was missing a good sounding engine.

Something about the E92 that makes me think I will get another one again.

I had an E46 for 2 years then bought an E92 which was really good but due to a problem with it I had to reject it so only got to thrash it around for two days but they were two great days!

I then decided just to buy a new M3 (F80) and have had it nearly nine months. It is a great car and I love the speed of it, it sounds ok to my untrained ears (I had the stupid "active sound" cabin speaker disabled the week I bought it).

It was my first new (pre-reg with 10 miles but I class as new!) car and I do really like it but it is much bigger and less exciting at low speeds than my E46.

It is a total rocket ship and effortlessly quick due to the turbo and DCT.

My friend is about to buy his second E92 and and I have been browsing the classifieds wistfully wondering if I should "downgrade" to that glorious engine but I wonder if I would miss all my surround cameras and the latest gizmos - now when I drive a car without HUD it annoys me having to look down at the dash and take my eyes off the road!

At least I still have my E46 which I'm currently converting in to a full blown track car! Maybe if the engine blows in that I will stick the V8 in for an extra 100hp cool

Owned an E46 M3, currently own an e92 M3. Use M4s for tyre testing quite a bit.

The e92 is a good car with an incredible engine. Can't see what I'll move to next in the sub 50k bracket. Maybe an R8, but I know how good the V10s are so wouldn't want a V8, or an F Type, but that doesn't have that NA V8 appeal.

Certainly won't be moving to an M4. Soulless car.

It's interesting and shows how different aspects of cars appeal to different people. I absolutely love my M4 and pretty much everything about it. Out of the cars i've owned over the past 30yrs, i'd say that taking everything into account it's the best one so far, and i've owned a few: 997tt, 996tt, 968CS, 3.2 carerra, 993, 997S , 325i, E36 m3, E46 m3 x2, 135M, 1M, rs3 , rs4, golf gtis, AMG

V8 have never been my thing but the engine in the e92 is simply awesome. I never knew a V8 could rev like that and be so responsive. When the lotto win comes I want one in an e30 M3. smile

If you're winning the lotto you might as well dream big and put the 5l v10 in from the m5. Same great engine, 20% more cylinders / power.

Had the car 3 days now , driven to work every day .... and gone out 3 nights running for a 1030 pm blast .

in 1 year of owning m4 i did not do that .

the engine on the e92 is glorious , i suppose if it had a bit more power in the low end it would be perfection , as it is its almost perfect .

Disagree. If it had more torque low down, a) it wouldn't make the top end feel as special so you'd use it less, and b) in order to do so technically they'd probably have to lose some RPM, so it would be a worse engine overall.

You can get a remap (yo) which gives a little more low down.

Get a decent exhaust on it too. Just for the noise cloud9

Exhaust note was what was missing from the time with mine.

Auto blip on down shifts was incredibly childish and I loved it.

Check out Paul the Welder on cutters...he does a good job at a fair price.
The two pipe mod is the most to go for, its plenty loud enough.

I really did like my E92 but the F82 is superior in every aspect. That free revving V8 is a marvel though.

"For the first time in the M vehicle, an electric power steering unit is being used"

"The M4 features Active Sound. A live amplification of the engine's natural sound will be inducted into the passenger cabin via the speakers"

Checkmate, feeble 3l twin turbo wink

I have kept my E92 M3 longer than I expected, not sure what to change it for as it is such a fantastic car. The engine is superb, the only faults are it needs a longer sixth gear and a bigger petrol tank. otherwise near perfect.
