BMW Comprehensive warranty
Discussion
I'm lookng to return to the world of car ownership and an E90 ~2008/09 is what I'm looking at based on budget.
Looking at things that break and fall off is alway frightening and the web is a wash of horror stories, you don't see the posts relating to secondhand ownership being the best thing ever.
So, my question for peace of mind.
Are warranties a good thing? (i'd only get a BMW Warrenty, not a 3rd party)
If yes, is it best for Comprehensive or named component).
Cheers all.

Thought worth chipping in while this was being discussed. I suspect I have a weeping injector which is causing a slight mistake on cold starts, and was planning to take the car to BMW to utilise the warranty.
While I was pulling the codes, I also noticed the Box sensor was on its way out, as well a intake sensor. Would BMW claim on the warranty in one hit for all those components as they are 'broke' as such, or does the excess apply to each component or claim. (As these may be unrelated)

I've got the full monty on mine - car has been fine the last couple of years, but there's a list of what they've fixed under the car in my profile. I'm paying in case of gearbox, engine or electrical issues, but it seemed best to have the full level of cover.
I see that 2013 was good year for your warranty work. Do you know what you saved from not having to pay out your own pocket? My fear is the same as yours. Big block items with with BIG buck prices.
The more I've read today the more I'll go with a BMW warranty as there seems to be fewer rejections (too much slippery sales from others).
I guess now I have to find the car.
Any suggestions on that front? engine/ fuel acconomy not a biggy as it'll not be a daily driver. Thinking a 325.
Cheers. Neil

Not a clue I'm afraid. I suspect the first year paid out more than I paid in - this hasn't been the same for subsequent years, but I'm happy enough with that, as I'm viewing this as an insurance policy rather than expecting to always be ahead. You could argue that if I saved the same amount each month as I'm paying out then I'd likely be safe enough, and that's true right up until one of the big ticket items dies! My appetite for risk is low, frankly, so I'll pay just in case. Suspect that makes me the perfect customer.
My E91 325d has an aftermarket warranty with Sytner. It was a used car from their "Select" range.
Within the first couple of weeks they'd replaced the CD player/Nav unit because the CD drive was broken. Huge bill but no cost to me.
They wouldn't pay out on the diversity amplifier though because it was due to water ingress, but apparently neither would a BMW used car warranty.
I've got it for sale at the moment and the warranty is transferrable, but i think it would obv be worth more money as a BMW warranty. So far though it has proved to be alright.

I've never really understood the select range - what was it about your 325d that made it 'Select' with a third party warranty and not a BMW Approved Used car? Given the sort of stuff you sometimes see them selling through AUC - Sytner had a 130,000 mile F10 535d the other day - I'm always a bit nervous of 'Select'.What's yours like?
Had it for 5yrs for my Z4M. No quibble payouts for O2 sensors and rear springs plus I collected up wheel caps and the like to bundle claims. Never got my money back but was conscious a replacement engine is £15k, same for gearbox apparently. Always amused me (not) the bills from one of the stealers always totalled the excess on my policy. Thieves! Once I'd found a trustworthy dealer all was well. Will be doing it again when the 325 and x3 time comes.
