I'm interested in purchasing a BMW used approved 1 series, having rung with the dealer, it is a two owner vehicle, the second being 'BMW Purchase'.

The dealer wasn't sure in which circumstance BMW would buy the car. It was owned between March and July 16 by BMW Purchase and covered 300 miles during their tenure before the BMW dealer who have it now took it on.

The car was first registered in Feb 13 and so may have been on a 36 month lease deal, given it was sold to BMW in March 16.

In what circumstance would BMW appear as a previous owner and would you have any concerns come resale time?

This is a new one! What is the owner's (BMW Purchase) address?

Maybe it was an internal company car for a member of staff and the BMW department then took it back in prior to distributing it through the network?

What model/colour is it? Sounds like it could be my mums old car, which she has just traded in.

If this car has been in the possession of BMW for 6 months how could it be a car your Mum just traded in?

The cynical miserable bd in me says that it's a lemon with major issues which ended up rejected by the first owner leading to BMW UK agreeing to buy it back...to sell on to the next unsuspecting victim/customer. Unlikely though but you never know, I've seen all kinds of trash sold as "approved used".

It's worth asking the question directly to the salesman (via email preferably) if the car was rejected previously, so at least you have some come back.

Is it two owners or just two registered keepers. I currently have a car on lease and I'm the RK, when I return to the lease co, I'm pretty sure they'll tranfer to their name before moving it on.

Motor traders don't have to register the car, so this really is a strange one.

I misread it, i thought the car was owned by BMW in 2013 not this year.

My Mum's car started out registered as BMW UK car, was then bought in by the local dealer and was actually registered as them being the owner (not sure why), so she was 3rd owner on a 3 month old car.

Most likely a demonstrator used by the dealership.

Thanks for your responses.

I'm planning to test drive the car Saturday if it's still available so will push for further information then.

I'm a little fuzzy on registered keeper vs registered owner so will look for clarification on which BMW Purchase actually were.

There is no such thing as a 'registered owner' - as far as the DVLA is concerned there is only registered keepers.

The fact it had a full 36 months of ownership beforehand suggests to me it did a lease term but your point is valid

Could be a lost logbook job or someone has fudged some paperwork somewhere down the line?

If the trade logbook gets lost then the only way to recover is register the car in somebody's name.

Although if it was a lease car I doubt BMW would lose the logbook.
