As above, think I've finally cracked a spring.

What's the general opinion on replacements?

Keep it OEM it was near perfect out of the box and has lasted your car well over a decade at the newest seems a great quality part.

recent thread on this here

seems the Sachs ones may be a better 'standard' option

I decided to keep it OEM when the first set of springs broke...then..the 2nd...then the 3rd... then finally i decided OEM might not be the best option!

I changed the last set of rears about 6 months ago for a set off eBay which i cannot even remember the brand name of! However, they have been perfect ever since, not too firm or soft and no signs of cracking.

Hi,

I have recently just fitted a set of rear springs, i didnt go with Genuine BMW, having had them previous and had 3 sets, i've opted for some Sachs ones from Euro Car parts. They came in around 20% cheaper tham BMW ones as ECP have a 25% offer on at the time of purchase, plus prices of the BMW ones have gone up a fair bit in the last 3 years.

Will see how they last.

Turns out on lifting the car up, it was the rear chassis bushes.

All done - tracking checked and drives great.

Still not suffered the curse of the springs.

Chassis bushes? Are you referring to the subframe bushes?

I should add that only the drivers side was really knackered. I went over (through) a big pot hole in Aldenham and the noise started, lifted the car and it'd pretty much been smashed. The rubber or polymer was incredibly brittle I guess due to age. Replaced both sides and it feels tighter than it has since I bought it.

I'm debating changing them on mine with Poly replacements but I am in two minds:

1) Do I wait until I do the subframe plates next year? I plan to let ETA Motorsport do these
2) Do I do them now? But can I get away with partially dropping the subframe and only disconnecting the brake lines on the subframe itself (thus not disconnecting them) and fit them?
