Having recently changed to winters, my car was feeling as good as it ever has.

But in the last week or so I've got a vibration - most noticeable through the accelerator at low speeds, but also apparent in the steering wheel.
Had the wheels rebalanced today (in case it was a symptom of wheel weights falling off since the winters were fitted) to no avail.

The symptoms don't worsen at speed. In fact, if anything, they lessen.

Any theories ? Only other recent work is recent front calipers but the car was fine immediately after they were fitted. It's a strange one.

Could be warped brake discs - had this several times on my 335i, although obviously only really noticeable when braking.

Standard BMW dealer approach is to replace the brake discs, but some specialists will skim them on a lathe. I tried to get the latter done, but they were too thin so needed replacements. Was told at the time that it was likely to return and would need skimming which would sort it out for good.

As was warned, has now returned 18 months since replacing - very annoying.

Had similar symptoms on my old E46, funnily enough also after a change to winters. Like you, poor balancing ruled out and so was any wheel buckling; the cuplrit was a sticky caliper.

Warped discs always a suspect with vibration but in my experience that vibration occurred only when braking.

Check the wheel nuts have been done to the right torque, BMWs are very sensitive to this apparently and it is the more likely culprit before brake discs and calipers, especially if felt under acceleration.

Thanks all. Will have the brakes looked at.
Did wonder about the wheel nuts torque. I actually went back a week or two after the tyre swap to have them tightened (as recommended, but I hardly ever do), to no avail.

Truly warped disc are a very rare thing, it's more commonly changes over the discs surface through pad material transfer or corrosion. Treatment could still be skimming before replacing

But you'd only feel that when braking so it may well not be your trouble. Where do you store your winters, how and how old are they?

Had the brakes looked at and the car driven today by a mechanic from a local independent that I've used before & rate.

They can't see anything wrong, nor particularly feel anything.
It's driving me a bit mental, tbh.

Car seems to be driving fine otherwise. Grr.

Oh - winters were new on last winter, stored in their side in my garage.

Update: I think it's temperature related.

Last 48 hours have seen the weather turn slightly milder here (i.e. not sub-zero), and there feels to be e less brittle edge to the ride & less vibration coming through to my feet on the pedals. Beginning to think that's the root of the issue. Temps due to keep rising through the week, so will see it that holds true.

Just to chime in my E92 330i had the same issue, disc run out checked and no obvious issues. Tried bedding the discs in again, persisted between summer / winter wheels and balancing didn't help. Turned out to be sticking calipers, only binding slightly but it was enough. Stripped, cleaned and greased up all of them and all is good (finally!).

100% be your wheels. I have went to plenty of balancer who are useless and say its "balanced"
Depending on how you stored them the tyre may have flat spots on them now meaning they are not "round"

If you really want to check if its put your summer wheels back on and check (I assume its a seperate set of wheels you have and not just tyres)

Thanks
