I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 but the bluetooth in the car refuses to connect. I'm assuming this is a compatibility issue between old car versus modern phone? The previous owner's Iphone is stored so it would appear to be non-faulty.

Does anybody have any info or work around tips on this? I mainly want it for playing music, though hands free phone calling would be a bonus.

Only BMW site there is option to download updates for Bluetooth. I did it on my E82, but sadly it's not been updated recently

Might be up wrong tree, barking, but as nobody's touched on it, how old is your E92 ?
My 2009 pre facelift had 2 USB ports. However, I wasn't aware it could stream music via Bluetooth. Not into music so I could have missed it, but it might be worth confirming your exact spec. so a musically minded person can best advise.

I had the new I Drive, CIC. Plus enhanced Bluetooth.

Mine's a 56 plate 335i with pro nav. No usb port, just an aux jack port under the armrest.

I imagine the simplest solution will be to get hold of an old phone/mp3 player with bluetooth and just use that for playing music. I can play it through the aux port currently but that's cumbersome, and hands free phone would be nice.

Any good going on android forums, seeing if there are issues with your phone and BMWs?
Do you know you can stream music via BT on the old I Drive, it's called CCC. I'm sure someone here knows more than me, but e90postUk is a good shout for tech stuff.

It took me bloody ages to pair my iPhone 5s to my E46 M3. Sometimes they can be temperamental. Not sure that the fact prior owners I phone paired means problem can't have arisen since.

Some versions of Android had issues downloading the phone book on some cars. If it makes the initial connection, reply No when it asks to download the phone book. Worked for my S6 on my 2006 Saab.

Have a 56 plate e92 330i myself with pro nav and a Galaxy Ace 4.
The bluetooth works as far as the phone is concerned however the contact list never shows.
It will not stream music on mine either.
Is your phone detected at all ?
If it is, are you pairing correctly when you put the code in as at the end of the process I have cocked up a few times myself by pressing the wrong key ( think its the return key sign that threw me if I recall).

It all seems to be going ok with the pairing until the final step where a failure message comes up. Can't remember exactly what it says as it's been a few week since I tried. I did notice in the manual earlier it says to do it with the engine off so I'll try that later.

No I don't know if it can stream music. I don't really know what it can do tbh, just be cool to find out.

I think you are pressing the wrong key at the end of the process ( after you put in all the numbers), has also happened to me.

Just did it with the engine off and all worked. It even brought in my contacts so all good on that front.

No it doesn't appear to stream music though unfortunately.

Only E92's built after March 2010 will natively stream bluetooth audio.

Since I last I upgraded my phone (HTC One M8) its connectivity with my E90 requires a bit of "management". Basically to get it to connect the BT on the phone needs to be off. Then start the car, then switch on the BT on the phone.

If the phone BT is on when I start the car it will connect but then drop the first time I make/receive a call.

Once I've got t connected I dial voicemail. If it will hold a connection to that then it will be OK thereafter.

If I've forgotten to turn the BT on the phone off before I start the car then I have to turn it off. Then turn the phone off, then turn the BT off on the car. Then turn the BT on the car back on, then restart the phone & then start the BT on the phone......and then it doesn't always sort itself out irked

If you have an AUX port then do what I did to stream BT audio and grab one of these.

Note: It didnt come with the USB lighter thing but they refunded me some money to get one. It is due to the way amazon list adverts for the same product.

Fox has provided the answer.

Your car will have an aux port under the armrest, but a 2006 car is not going to allow you to control the music selection using iDrive. You can use iDrive to make calls though.

You will either need a Dension500 or upgrade to CIC iDrive to stream Bluetooth music.
