A little over dramatic. You park the car and all is well. There is no puddle of oil next time you get in, there will be same amount of oil as the last time the engine ran. If the oil has miraculously disappeared, you start the engine, the oil light stays on, you turn it off. How many people check their oil prior to starting every time.
People are happy to blindly believe their fuel gauge.

not necessarily, my rocker cover went on my car and the gasket at the bottom of the oil filter housing, quite a bad leak too, having to top up regularly till I got it booked in, the was NO oil on the floor as you have the skid plate things underneath. All I'm saying is, if you got a dipstick, you can check it and you know for definite
Is an electric pump so bad? how many cars have had pumps fail and take out the cambelt and valvetrain?
My E91 uses a tiny bit of oil, so frequently use the check oil on a run. Sure its a bit dumb you cant do it from cold but lets assume you spotted the warning light last time you drove it?
Just means you dont need to open the bonnet...
