I have one of the above and it comes fitted with Bridgestone Potenza S001 run flats.

Can I fit non run flat tyres without loosing manufacturers warranty or invalidating my insurance?

If not are there any other tires run flat that would be better than those? Pirelli P Zeros?

Thanks

Mine came with Pirelli tyres , 12000 miles later there's plenty of life in them and the car drives great compared to other bmws I've had on run flats

Chill brother!! Have you never misspelt any word whilst typing on a smart phone?

Besides if you have nothing constructive to add to this thread don't be such a smart self righteous ass!

Some people...

I hardly think that getting frustrated at people constantly misspelling lose is me being a self-righteous arse. Try spelling the simple word properly instead? Bizarre how you've managed to spell everything else right but somehow your phone misspells lose all of a sudden.

PS. I am chilled, I'm in bed with a nice cup of tea.

I hear you.... perhaps you should review the thread you started about the Porsche Macan S....

It's "petrol demonstrator" not "demonstrater"....

I am chilled too... but you are the smart ass... glass ceilings and all that jazz... I normally don't care about the pettiness of your correction but PH seems to be full of this new breed of self righteous species that bring nothing relevant to the discussion that I chose to comment.

For future reference as frustrated you may be with any spelling mistakes please make sure you don't make any of your own as if you do, you come across as a bit of a prick... mind I am not calling you a prick but if was set to point out a spelling mistake I would need to be sure I wouldn't be making that mistake myself.

To be fair, your literacy does leave a little to be desired. It's not all about spelling, you know. wink

Sorry Paul. I got distracted.

I may give the Pirellis a shot. We have them on another car as well but not a BMW and they do lack a bit of grip but I have a feeling it's more due to the aforementioned car. Do you have 19 inch wheels? 255s on the rear?

The Bridgestones are ok but are just not confidence inspiring. I would prefer Michelins but no run flats so a bit limited by choice I guess.

No probs , yes 19s with 255s. Adaptive suspension and sport plus pack , car rides fine , maybe does lack a little grip in cold damp weather but I can live with that rather than changing a wheel in cold damp weather !

Exact same spec as mine. Adaptive suspension makes the run flats quite comfortable for the setup we have. Thanks for shared experience. Next time I will go with Pirellis seems to be a better shout than the Bridgestone I have now.

A bit off topic have you thought about fitting the MPK (remap and exhaust?) I am tempted but at the same time performance is adequate as it is. I do 15-20k a year a it's just right!

It's crossed my mind to fit it , but as you say , it's fast enough anyway , I've also got a slc 43amg that's a bit faster than the BMW , not much mind !
Last year I drove mine to the ring , didn't do any laps as it was far to busy , then onto the Dordogne then down to San Sebastián . It was really comfortable , returned about 33 mpg according to the obc and was more than quick enough on a very busy autobahn , no chance to see if the limiter works ! It also proved to be real world fast when travelling with a v8 m3 , there really wasn't anything between them on the long straight 2 lane road back from Biarritz to Dordogne when over taking the trucks , nail it from 50mph and it's up to well over a hundred quicker than I thought , which was handy as the trucks use this route too .

It's still lose and not loose. Congrats on your fevered research though, you must feel very satisfied.

Sticks.

Have a read of some of the tyre review sites, or model specific forum, there's a lot of info out there.

I've been very pleaded with Goodyear F1 Asymetrics but it doesn't necessarily follow they'll be best for you.

Seems a fun trip. Yes for me for everyday car do it all it's just perfect. I don't mind the mpg much even doing 20k a year it's just much nicer than other diesels I had. Petrol all the way for me.

Goodyears are good as well. Will try the Pirellis first though.

Anyway, back on topic.

OP, I think you'll be surprised as how much nicer the car feels if you switch to non RFT.

Yes, I thought that... mine have a load index of 92 not 96 so don't feel to rigid.

I need to clarify with BMW UK and my insurance if using non RFT would invalidate my warranty or insurance. Any experience with that?

I can't see why it would but they may say RFT are safer so in effect I would modify my car by fitting tyres that are not as safe on a blow out.

I would prefer the non run flat as there are better choices of tyre but until I get the green light in writing from both I will keep the run flats going.
