I already use something similar in my work, they're called Dynaplugs.

They work very well with screws and nails, but of course not so well with tears and sidewall splits.
Definitely better than just carrying foam though, on the way back from Norway a few years ago we had an Aston hit 180mph on the autobahn having dynaplugged a tyre a few days earlier. No issues.

I would think as long as you buy start marked - which a BMW approved the insurance company should not have a problem - but still worth checking with them.

The only star marked tyres in these sizes are RFTs frown

Doesn't matter - I've used non-BMW "approved" tyres without any problems. All the star means is that they've been "approved" by BMW, but I've yet to see anything about what this "approval" process involves. I suspect it's just another backhander between the tyre manufacturer and BMW.

Not relevant to this application, but i know the star-marked tyres for my old E83 X3 were developed with not just rolling radius but also weight as part of the spec, hence the issues with non-star-marked staggered fitment tyres causing issues on the transfer cases on those E83's.
