I currently have an E91 330i touring, with no iDrive.

I am picking my new to me E61 520d Touring, which is Business Edition up next week, I haven't really used iDrive at all so I have a few questions I am hoping your guys can assist me in.

With my iPhone, running Spotify for my music, Can I skip songs and see the artist and song name?

I have seen some info on this, but I don't understand all the coding this and modules there etc.

With regards to the Satnav, is the BE using full digit postcodes?

Many thanks

Luke

I believe you need the Combox to be able to bluetooth stream music through the car. If you know the vin number you can have a look online to see if it was specced. I dont think that many were. If you dont have it, you will need to buy a bluetooth transmitter for the phone.

If you have the combox i think you can skip tracks through the idrive, without it you cant.

I dont think you will have 7 digit postcodes.

as mentioned the earlier CCC iDrive's found in our E6x Beemers wont Bluetooth stream - i wasn't aware of a separate module as mentioned above and will look into it, but may be more ££ or hassle than its worth. I noticed some did come with DAB though.. that i would like!

Im just grateful my iPhone 6s works with the bluetooth on a 2006 car, as i assumed with alter bluetooth updates they may not have paired (like in my 09 R32!).

Clunky system and a little slow, but does the job. We have a 4 series with the later CIC iDrive awell and it is honestly miles apart.

Thanks chaps.

For now I will Ben able to use my BT dongle, plugged into the jack slot and paired with my phone, and use music that way, until I can find and better understand what to do.

I see the Y cable might be able to let me control the Spotify via the iDrive?

Many yhanks

I wouldn't bother with the Y cable if you've already got a BT dongle. It won't do Spotify, it will just let you browse the 'Music' library on the iPhone.

I've given up on using the Y cable with my iPhone with my car (an E91) - I've got a BT dongle plugged into the aux in port, and a small USB stick plugged into the USB port.

I have one of these plugged into the aux port in the armrest as I dont have the combox.

I had it on my old E90 as a handsfree phone kit but my new E91 has it integrated so I just use it if I want to listen to iphone music through the aux on the idrive and the music comes through bluetooth. Ipone 6 fits quite well in the coin tray so even though you still have to change tracks on the phone itself its not too bad.

You could use a Dension Gateway which will enable the iPhone to display tracks/artist on the iDrive screen and will control the phone through the iDrive control wheel. The Gateway will itself need to be coded to the car if a CD player isn't installed as standard.
