Looking at getting one of these in the not too distant future, been looking for a while now. Any models to particularly avoid? Ideally I'd like the 535 petrol, but there just aren't any about, so either the 535d or the 530d I guess. I know in the older e60 models the 530 sometimes suffered turbo problems, is that still an issue with the f10/11?

When did the electronic bootlid become standard? I believe it was 2012, but not sure what month.
Cheers

I owned an F11 535i last year, and it was a lovely car.
Took me 8 months to buy though, once I'd decided that was what I wanted.
In that time, only 3 came up for sale, and I wasn't quick enough on the first and didn't like the spec on the second.
I believe only around 70 or so F11 535i were registered in the UK between 2010 and 2015.
Worth it if you can wait for one...

Does not sound as if you are considering the ubiquitous 520d.

It's not a 6 cylinder and not as powerful or refined as those vehicles, I imagine, but in my experience it has sufficiently powerful, torquey and refined in every day driving.

Mine is a highly-specced 62 plate 520d M sport.

Sounds like you didn't keep it long though?

Unfortunately not - my financial situation changed with a job change and I needed to clear the decks.
Letting it go was tough after waiting so long to find it!
Almost 40mpg at 77mph cruise, but fast and flowing in Sport+ whilst being capacious and comfortable.

Ah sorry to hear that. Didn't mean to pry.

Not at all. I'm in a better place now, and I've ticked the F11 535i box.
So many cars, so little time... biggrin

Always think the F10/F11 looks very plain in MSport trim. The de-chromed look really doesn't suit the shape.

That looks lovely, even the wheels I want. You're right about them not coming up very often, one popped up on auto trader last week, every option I want, sold the first day it appeared. Will keep looking, along with the diesel alternatives.

Anybody know about the electronic tailgate? There's a couple of 530d's on the auc site, both July 2012, neither have it listed so must be later than July I guess.

Not really considered the 520d to be honest, although that would make life easier as there seem to be plenty to choose from.

Mine had the electric tailgate but it was listed as an option on the BMW AUC window when i found it, not in the standard equipment. IIRC it was a July '12 build.

You can spec an MSport with shiny trim for £0.

It's not just the window surround, it's the bumpers, too. The MSport bumpers just don't look 'right' to me.

(Needs turbine alloys, too. And oyster / black interior)

It's definitely a taste thing and I hate to see the chrome on any BMW, and probably explains why I've always had M sport beemers.

The 535i is super rare(manual my preference) and I check most days to see if one pops up for sale, I had a E61 520d touring and it's worth having a 6-pot in a nice car for me.

I suppose the chrome does suit the old man image of the 5 series better in all fairness.

Heh.

Mine is Luxury, Mediterranean Blue, Turbine Wheels, Sun Protection Pack and Oyster / Black interior. Didn't spec. sports seats as they're too hard. (Got a load of other options, too, best car I've ever had).

I tried for over a year to buy a 535i saloon, gave up, never a decent one for sale, ended up with another 530d and honestly now wonder why I wanted the 535i. It's a heart v head thing but it's not really any quicker than the diesel, the soundproofing inside the facelift is so good that the diesel isn't intrusive, and...

what am I saying? I'll go and hang my head in shame.

Good price too.

I have indeed seen that one, agreed it looks lovely. Sadly too far away from me to go and see. Not sure why it hasn't sold yet, it's been for sale for a few weeks now with a couple of price drops. The one I saw online more locally which sold on day one was also similar low milage and priced at 20k.
