BMW X3 F25 centre console trim

For some reason the (brushed aluminium) trim has popped up slightly to the left around the gear selector trim. I can push it back down into the correct position but it springs straight up again like its domed up slightly or a spring clip has failed ??? Is it fairly straightforward to get the trim off? I can't understand how it has happened.
