Passenger door opening failed, took everything apart and have found there's a broken connection to the button.

Not obvious as to how the button works so looking for a replacement and guess how much TVR Parts want for ONE - delivered.
Sit down.
£25.06

Amazed, anyone know of decent alternatives???

'TH', Guess you mean for the Chimaera (no year given), as per your profile/garage on here??

'Fraid you've got to suck it up. The buttons behind the door for release were bespoke parts.

Is it possible to 'tap' the original out of the grp and repair....Guess they were mastic secured from new?

Ah, yes, sorry.
98 Chimaera, button beneath the door mirror.
There is mastic over the connection with no obvious spot for repair.

Ebay options appear to be too bulky to fit.

As you say, gotta suck it up!

Have a look on the Maplin web site at Anti-Vandal 12mm SPNO Momentary Push Switch, I'm sure its the same switch but check the dimensions.
They don't do the black version any more they do green, red and nickel priced from £5 - 6

You may have to take the mirror completely apart to change it. There may be a nut on the rear holding the switch into the mirror housing. The wires go into a loom that runs through the centre of the mirror mounting, into and down the inside of the door panel.

OK, Remove glass from mirror - Max tilt "UP" on mirror, see little slider at base - slide to 'outside'/anticlock. Remove glass. Muzak frame is now exposed c/w small motors for tilt and rotate mechanism. IIRC muzak frame can be removed by undoing machine screws. Should now be able to release door release button via back nut and pull through mirror body. Probably enough wire to solder new button wires to existing which saves messing threading wires through door skin/mirror mount. I'd check fault is not with connector in door cavity first - spray WD-40??

Cheers Rob, will order from racetech. Good to see the pictures of the new paintjob!

Nick - Thanks for the guide. I found out about the mirror glass and took it apart having exhausted the easier options of WD40, door actuators and any obvious breaks in the wire.

It all came apart quite easily and as soon as I freed the button I could see the broken connection. It looks like there is enough wire to just connect to a new button. 8 days to MOT!!

Cheers all, may even document the process based on my luck in finding anything similar on the site.

I'm assuming the external door opening button is the same as used on the Cerbera. If it is RS Components sell them, stock number 321-278, for £5.20 each.

Cheers Will! I just threw all my money at Racetech.

Didn't think to look at RS over the weekend, all the ones I found looked like they'd been lifted from an 80's pub fruit machine.

Out of interest, what's the concensus on the rubber covers for these buttons?

On to keep the water out?
Or off as they hold water and keep the dampness in?

And I can confirm these work well. 9 years on mine, still working ok and car used in all weather. Thats without any rubber cover.

I would say it will be 'special' so little or no chance of buying one.
Best just buy a new switch which will come with a nut.

I bought these when I replaced mine. Just double check the mounting hole size.

£3.69 for a pack of 5 buttons, including delivery.
