so i took my bmw 125d in for an oil change and have noticed that instead of resetting just the oil service indicator on the i drive they have reset everything, brake pads, brake fluids etc... now i don't know when everything else needs a service. Can the correct distance for service be put back on everything else? would you complain to the garage?

No I wouldn't complain, these are basic maintenance items, you should know, it's your car you drive it everyday.

Not sure why it's the garages fault you can't tell when things need doing, especially when it's in the service booklet

Yes, the intervals can be changed with BMW dealer software.

Don't be so stupid. That IS the service book they messed up, it's an electronic service book. That's what most cars have now. Who else's fault would it be? They reset the wrong thing, so they should fix it.

Yes, I would complain. If it's BMW they should put it back. If it's not BMW and they can't do it they should pay to get it sorted (as it's unlikely BMW will do anything for free).

I suppose it depends if you know when the intervals previously were - if not I very much doubt they'd find it from the OBC.

What service items are monitored? As far as I can tell, my 530D monitors oil change intervals, the fixed 3 yearly brake fluid change and the brake pads.

Your oil service monitoring is correct, if your happy with BMW's long intervals, the brake fluid is a known requirement that will be on the service record if it's done and hardly needs monitoring by the car.

The pad wear monitoring is so inaccurate it's hardly worth having anyway.

Any work done is still going to be on the record so it's hard to see that have a significant issue worth bothering about.
