The golf is very planted and difficult to unsettle on a B road but it's almost too good, it's very easy to drive fast. On the other hand the 135 moved around with the back end squirming which was a lot of fun and gave a better reading of the road and I miss that.
This is the crux of the issue for me. Having swapped a 2012 S4 with Sport Diff for an M240 I think in most circumstances the S4 would get from A to B faster, certainly as quickly with less effort or thought required from the driver even though the 240 is marginally the quicker car in a straight line. The problem with the Audi (and I assume Golf R / S3 etc) is there's an excess of grip for the power available and the 4wd system gives a bolted down feel to the chassis which makes the car boring to drive unless you're really pushing on, and the chances to do that safely and relatively legally (at least where I live in the South) are few and far between. The 240 in comparison feels light on its feet and a little nervous and fidgety when accelerating hard which I can understand some dont like, but for me it's another form of feedback which gives you a better feel of what the car is doing which I always found lacking in the S4

First impressions on some bumpy Yorkshire roads is that the 140 is a touch stiff at the rear; it bucks about under hard acceleration well into beyond legal and then sensible speeds.

Nice to have character, maybe a touch more than necessary, considering the 'torque everywhere' power delivery, though.
