Buying Advice - M135i MPP or F10 535i M?
Discussion
So, the Audi is beginning to cost nearly £2k a year to run and the novelty of running such a ridiculous car for a daily is wearing off. Come MOT time, I will be looking for a new car and I think it's back to BMW.
Owned previously:
BMW 320i E36
BMW M3 E30 Roberto Ravaglia ( sooo close to buying )
BMW 330i e46
BMW 535i E39
BMW 320i E91
Rangey P38 ( :P )
Anyway.
I have two options
Budget is £16000 approx + part ex £7250 approx= £23250.
Ideally don't want to spend more than £20k in total (i.e 5-20k barge style)
The requirements (yes I know it's a bit unusual )
- big enough to ferry 3 kids and 2 adults occasionally
- 0-60 in less than 6 seconds (fast)
- tuneable
- tax no more than say £350-£400
- reliable in the sense that it won't lunch it's turbos and engine in the second week of ownership (320i E91)
- mpg = more than 30
- fairly big boot
- big BMW Individual spec to hold resale values
- not yummy to car theft rings (i.e not an M135i that is too new or even attractive to car theft rings)
- no older than 2010
The two cars I am looking at:
M135i Peformance Pack
Key features:
- PRE FACELIFT (not as desirable to theives due to age)
- Individual Anthracite headling (is that all?! )
- PDC, Dakota pack, bi xenon, sun pack.
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...
Strange one:
2014 BMW 535i F10... with what seems to be the F30 M wheel inside! Never seen that before.
- BMW Individual piano black trim ( a bit more desirability)
- M Sport Plus package
- Leather package
- Jet Black
- BMW Media Pro pack
- Electric Memory seats - heated
- PDC
- Connected Drive pack
- Auto lights
- Rain sensing wipers
- Bluetooth
Reasonable miles at 37,000.
But I can't seem to accept the £25 k asking price.. especially as the M135i is only £19000... which makes it around £12 k so I can buy on the spot.
Help please?
Please note I won't be buying a car until the MOT expires on the Audi in a few months (July)
Thanks

I would defo go for the M-lite, but the M135i you're looking at is fairly low spec, doesn't have any of the following which would be desirable for potential buyers come resell
business nav or pro media
full black panel display
harmon kardon
adaptive suspension
m sport suspension
cruise control
Better specced ones out there for similar money with slightly more miles

I am looking to do a deal at a BMW main dealer or more hesitantly somewhere else, but I wouldn't mind your average Joe's cargiant. Preferably JCT600, Sytner etc. I think the under £20k is the best mix, but I will stretch to £21k. Is Estoril in demand? If only they made a Hellrot M135i .HK seems to be in demand too..
1 series, for 2 adults and 3 kids? No chance.
They're also pretty low rent / low quality inside and need a serious spend on options to bring them up to a decent spec. (ie. professional navigation, Harman Kardon, and driver convenience pack).
F10s are great cars, though. Whilst I'm limited to x20d engines, there's a massive gulf in quality between an F20 and an F10.

Hard to tell with colours. Suppose you can't go wrong with Alpine or Mineral white.
Curveball suggestion from my end would be a 328i, just a nice blend of all your requirements and can be had at a good price too. More premium in look and interior quality compared to a 1er also. There's a lot of competition at this price - I had the same problem!

There's pretty much nothing between it when you look at quality of the F20 and F30. Some surfaces have different treatments (rear side of interior door pulls, for example) - but they're very similar. The big jump is F30 to F10. Having had an F20, I decided F30 based cars (ie. 3 series and 4 Gran Coupe) were too low rent to bother with.
I ran an S5 4.2 V8 for a few months last year but sold it as the running costs became excessive. Now driving a late 2013 F21 M135i and much happier - faster, more fun and cheaper to run! Agree about the points on spec - mine has the ZF8 'box, MPE, Pro Nav, HK Audio and adaptive dampers. Great all round package

The S5 4.2 is the exact engine in my A6 and why I am thinking of selling upThanks for advice on the 135i
How wise would it to be consider a Nov 2008 E90 M3?

Spec list looks ok, and I guess we can leave the mpg here, as it is special...
But the red dash and miles are putting me off.. are the core mechanicals reliable on these cars?

V8 M3 running costs are not comparable to either M135i or 535i - not even close.
Fuel consumption is just a tiny part of that equation.
How old are the 3 kids and how occasionally are they in the car?
The M135i is the conspicuous bargain for bang/buck - both on costs and on fun factor, but you couldn't get 3 toddler seats in the back (though you could always get a Multimac).

So, I'd think that the M135i might be too small.. but the 535i too boring and expensive, and the 335i too subdued.
They aren't in the car often, so I might just go with an M135i.
