Took it past 175k miles, which isn't too bad at all for the baby of the range. I celebrated this by doing the 125i 3rd gear trick, so change into 3rd at 40, plant your foot and grin as it takes off towards highly illegal speeds in one gear.

Given how it went, I'd say it's still in fine fettle despite it's age and miles.
Took my 125i over 91k over the weekend- nice to know even with nearly double the miles it'll still do the business. I also did the '4th gear trick' on the M42, which is similar but from ~60mph, to get rid of a lad in an E92 320d who was right up my arse. I won't say what speed I was going when I backed off but he was a distant speck in the rear view mirror when I did. laugh

Replaced the the rear indicator bulbs over the weekend too- the n/s blew while driving up to visit my parents on Easter Weekend (30 mins into a 4.5hr journey... so I felt like a right tit). Luckily a ridiculously easy job on the E82 (at least with the standard pre-LCI lights), much more pleasant than replacing the headlight bulbs. It also got a good wash by my standards- which means I stretched to applying Autoglym Rapid Aqua Wax and an interior clean.

Unfortunately the coolant is still looking a bit milky despite a new OFHG and oil cooler gasket (and apparently a coolant flush) but doesn't seem to be getting any worse so I'm hoping it's just some leftover crud- it's much better than it was. I'll probably get it flushed again when it goes for its MOT in a couple of months, the oil cap is still spotless so at least I don't need to worry about the head gasket.

The crimping tool you've linked produces a poor crimp. I'd go with the one linked by TS12. Its also important to crimp the terminal in the correct orientation in the tool.

Are the bulb terminals clearly marked pos/neg? I'd expect even a poor crimp to at least energise the LED.

Edit:
You've probably googled this already but see 3:00 onwards.

Brill, just bought them. The terminals aren't marked +/-. However, from what I'd read elsewhere, I understood that it doesn't matter which of the wires attaches to which of the terminals? Accordingly, I also tried swapping the cables around.

Will watch the youtube vid, cheers.

Good effort - my friend sold his 125i with 250-odd miles on the clock.

Our 330i has ticked over 171k, so catching your 125i up.

It was a cheap day on AUTODOC, I don’t think my Evri driver will enjoy what’s on the way….

Pair of front wishbones
Rear dampers
Drop links
Tie rod assemblies (I’m expecting the worst)
Rear bump stops
Rear discs (the ones in there are a bit crusty and ATE ones were so cheap, it was rude not to)
Front are rear ATE ceramic pads (again massively cheap compared to my E9x ones).

Going to be a busy few weeks!

Thank you biggrin don't get too close to it - it's a bit of a 10 footer!! It's had a good life - started out as a repmobile so it was downhill from there! Coming up to 11 years of ownership this July. It will be 30 next year so I'm intending to get it to a good enough standard to take it to Munich, do the factory tour and the museum, and take it to Dingolfing where it was built (although BMW don't let you in the factory there).

4 new tyres today on the 640i. Managed to get 24k out of the new ones that were on the car when I purchased it two years ago. They were all still very much legal but I’ve got some weird wear on the outsides on the front two.

Will get full tracking done soon.

Going to replace some cooling bits on my Dads 2004 e83 X3, it seems the thermostat is failing open, its taking a long time to warm up and then drops down when driving down the motorway.

So thermostat, waterpump was leaking a little so I already changed that last year, both hoses from the thermostat, possibly the expansion tank and the small thermostat at the bottom of the expansion tank?

Any other parts and what brand parts are recommended?

Cheers.

Genuine BMW parts last better than aftermarket on these.

It might be worth mentioning which engine is fitted as there could be better specific knowledge available, but as above, genuine seems to last longer.

Sorry, its a 3l m54.

I think genuine bmw would be around £400 for those parts against around £150 afternarket.

The coolant reservoir may be ok ie its 20 years old now so it may have been changed, i’m just partly concerned about removing all these bits from a potentially older radiator and don’t want old plastic ports snapping off.

The hoses are squeezeable and the seals seem to be ok but i was thinking new hoses so the seals were fresh.

Its had a fair bit spent on it recently, passed its mot, then the electrics died the day after.

That seems to be ok now, but just finding how water is getting into the rear 3/4 panel, then clear the rear drains and the boot can all go back in, so something reasonable quality at an ok price would be nice.

Collected more parts for my Z4 today - three new badges (wings and boot), stubby antenna, ZHP gear knob and a new flap for the storage between the seats.

Started fitting new bits

Had a new windscreen fitted as well.

The new plates and badges have tidied the car up loads.

That looks lovely, great colour.

Look into CDV removal and sound generator mod (more intake noise)

Welcome to the Z4 club wink! But you really should have got an E85! Summers almost here

Thanks. It’s Monaco Blue.

Whilst I’d have loved an E85 especially since I miss her old 125i cab, I can’t do this with an E85
