G11 740d (2018) - android carplay compatible?

Tech numpty here so forgive me if the answer is glaringly obvious etc

Ive a 2018 740d - Id like to start using android carplay

Ive downloaded it on my fone, but nothing to suggest that its conpatible happens

How do I make it work (or can it work) is the question!

Looks like some say yes; a lot of others say no and it needs to be retrofitted:

Some YT vids point to it just being coded; but not sure how much I'd take that as gospel

Edit just re read - Android CarPlay isn’t a thing,

Apple = CarPlay
Android = Android Auto

Android auto is more complicated to add I think you’ll need an external module and its aftermarket in nature.

Assuming it’s the same if you have idrive 7 and virtual cockpit you’ll have it, but yours won’t at that age.

It seems that it’s easily coded in - you may need to add an antennae in though.

From what I learned whilst looking, the first 2017 iteration has a digital dash and iDrive 6:


However In late 2019/2020 this was replaced with the more modern cockpit style digital dash and iDrive 7:

Put your vin into BimmerTech and you'll get a full spec list (better than the other decoders).

One of the module options is apple carplay. If it's listed then job done.

I did not think that it was tied to the digital dash.

Android Auto did not come until later and is aligned to the digital dash.

You can retrofit them, but that throws up other potential challenges AIUI.
