Hi guys,

Finally got a m240i after looking for months. But I have a question for you. The one I've chosen has very good spec and is in mint condition.

It's a 2019 reg with 46k miles.

It has a full BMW service history and only thing that worries me, looking at the servicing, it did 24k miles in one year. After this, it only did 5-8k a year.

I do also have a BMW letter saying how it was used as a courtesy car for a day before. I'm assuming it must have been used as a BMW courtesy car for a year to rack up 24k miles. I can see from the documents that it was then bought by a regular buyer after that. But would this worry anyone? Servicing has been done and logged and it definitely does not look like it's been ragged.

As it's 5 years old, most people do 10k miles a year so 46k really isn't much I guess. Just surprised it did 24k in a single year at one stage.

Your thoughts on this would be great!

Thanks

I wouldn’t worry if you’re satisfied it has been serviced correctly and that you’re happy with the condition of the car in its current state.

Do courtesy cars normally do big miles? Or was it a salesmans car who had a lengthy commute?

The only downside if it was a courtesy car is that it will have probably had many different drivers who might have treated it like a hire car, especially a performance car like that.

It could have been redlined a few times smile

Having said that I bought an ex Hertz E Class and did over 300k miles in it without a major issue.

I had an M240i and then an X3 M40i ... now a G42 M240i xdrive.

2 of the 3 were not new.

If it looks ok, drives ok and has service history then don't worry. The engine is a peach and pretty much bullet proof. It is an auto and won't let itself be ragged until oil is ok for it.

Condition is everything. Enjoy. I never had, nor have had, any issue with my 3 B58 engined cars.

How come you got rid of the x3? Any flaws? Thinking of having one next
No, I had it four years from new and selling was a huge mistake. No issues with it and it was fully loaded. I was doing a job with significant commuting so traded it for a PHEV Toyota. Binned that job and now commute but train or bicycle ... thus back in a BMW.
