Phone book works on Bluetooth, can’t get music from phone.. connected via usb cable to glove box I’ve read I may need a y cable?

Its possible the car does not allow bluetooth streaming, as BMW were quite tight with this until 9-10 years ago.

You would need the "Enhanced Bluetooth" package which normally came with Pro Nav.

Yes you may need the genuine BMW Y cable to connect via USB too - Its essentially a lightning connector on one end and USB+AUX on the other.

Try the USB in the arm rest or front console - the one in the glovebox was for data not media
