Of course the new V10 M5 is faster ultimately than a 2993cc diesel, i would only claim that under road use, the M5 would very rarely get away and would have less instant urge in many situations. The old M5 and the current stock M3 would be a close match for a DMS 535d, which has many other advantages over the M car.
That's all i am claiming, i have no idea what a Bentley does 60-160 or whatever.

M5 - M5

M12, so you had lots of fast car experience at 18 or 21 did you? Are you not older and wiser now?

Most people gather experience over time, i think the point being made was.

I know i had not had many genunely fast cars at 21. Not many people have.

Anyway, i vowed to quit this thread as it is no longer achieving anything but hot air from all sides.

No but that's not to say Chaz hasn't, and nor does it give anyone the right to patronise him in that overly condescending way and use their own wealth as a way of tring to reinforce their arguement

Too many petrol fans have their knickers in a twist after realising just how good the new diesels are, i e 330d better than 330i and 535d better than 530i.

Get over it.

I think to be honest it's the emotive use of the word 'better' that's getting everyones knickers in a twist. It's too general and has a different meaning to ever person that uses it. Perhaps if everyone used more descriptive words then misunderstandings wouldn't develop.

Diesel has two main advantages over petrol; efficiency and driveability. If I remember correctly diesel as a fuel contains 35% more latent energy than gasoline (per volume of fuel), also since a diesel engine by the very nature of it's power delivery operates closer to it's peak torque more of the time than a petrol engine. Ergo, the diesel powered car consumes less fuel (by volume) than the petrol. This is not necessarily true by mass of fuel by the way, since diesel fuel weighs more than gasoline. The second advantage also comes from the diesel engine operating closer to its torque peak, which is the reason why a diesel engine with careful design can offer better driveability in day to day (stop-start, cut and thrust) conditions.

Ultimate performance of a diesel powerplant will always be less than a petrol engined one due to it's lower power output, but often that doesn't matter in many of the instances we drive cars in these days. But there will always be some of us who still enjoy the advantages of a good powerful petrol engine on the roads and are willing to pay that bit extra for the privelege.

Paid £25K for what?

You paid £28,800 on your profile for the M3.

If it's a stock M3, you will never leave a DMS 535d behind, no way jose.[/quote]

2002 M5 to replace the E46 M3, which replaced a chipped E39 530d, which replaced a chipped E46 330d,
so the cost thing doesn't quite stack up - and historically 5's have had shite residuals, nothing to show yet that these will be any better......

You're 20 or 21. No more needs to be said really.

;-)

(Get experienced in a wide range of fast cars and report back, laddy. Say, when you have had 15 decent cars).
I have owned and driven more fast cars than you have had wet wipes.
Get real.

Chaz has driven more fast cars than you realise, PAL. You have no idea of his experience or anything else. Don't go judging him just by his age

Can he report back now 535d? Please? Would that be alright?

Oh, Chaz, £20K will get me a well-used Skyline with 500bhp.
Great bangs per buck but they are not virtually giving the things away for no reason.

.

535d I thought you had left this post ages ago?.Well once again you are pre-judging me.

I guess my comments about a 535d being an old mans family wagon which it is of course has upset you. You just do not want to accept that, do your self a favour and look in the mirror old man.

I wonder where the 535d would be put on top gears cool wall.

Well there is always the z tune r34. 90k’s worth of skyline if that is better for you.

Oh and cheers Nathan.

No need to prejudge. Your list of cars as well as your posting show you to be extremely childish.
Your views and use of words are all that is needed to prove that you need to grow up and come back when your list of cars resembles 'impressive'.
At the moment it is about one-twentieth of what i have owned and i have had at least 2 cars which would waste your ancient old beaten up 1990s Skyline which has probably had more uncareful owners than the average XR3i.
Grow up Chaz and come back when you have actually done something in life.

I have owned 2 200mph cars and 3 180 mph ones. Don't talk to me about performance because you have picked on the wrong person, baby boy.

Chaz/Chav is just a raw and inexperienced loud kid.
Let him mature and then see if he talks any sense. Give him 5 years.

You really are a blatant troll.

I've told you before on this thread (as have some others) that comments like "I have owned 2 200mph cars and 3 180 mph ones." and "I'm soo rich, I can buy what ever car I want.", get you absolutely no where and impresses nobody. There are people on Pistonheads that drive cars you can only dream of and they are so down to Earth it's unbelievable. You could learn a thing or two from them.

You do not understand the cars he has driven. Do you think a 4.5 Cerbera lightweight that's been tuned is a slow car? It's not on his list of cars because he didn't own it but has driven it regularly enough. You don't know him and many of your comments miss the mark by a long way.

His Skyline came from Japan and was tuned for drifting, hence his change of rear suspension etc recently. I'm sure if you got in that car and tried to drive it as quickly as he could in the form it was set to, you'd have lost it.

Especially without your old man's driving glasses.

If I remember correctly not so many pages ago, people were calling you the childish one, with that you chucked your toys out of the pram and said you were leaving this thread, so you go back on your own words as well. Yes maybe when I am a old man like you I will have owned more cars.

Once again you pick on the age of my car yes it is old yes I could have bought a car 10yrs younger for the same amount of money, but I was after a reliable fast car, something with near on 300bhp standard, I did not want a 4-5 door wagon that weighs 2tons, and also I wanted some respect, no offence but a 535d does not really have much” street cred".

I can only imagine your type;

“look at me I drive a "new" bmw I am better than you.”

ps I think we should remember what this thread is really about and stop being childish.

Amusing that it's run to so many pages, perhaps even more amusing that people are getting stressed about such an unimportant matter.
