You need to hit a damp patch in a Griffith 500 at speed to put your tank slapper into context I would suggest. Nearly lost 2 stone in 2 seconds via my arse!
Take my word for it, it's severe. I'm honestly surprised more of them haven't been written off. The problem is two-fold. Firstly, it's so unpredictable that it catches you by surprise. And it's not the same old circumstances that cause problems, but ones through which you've been lots of times before without a hitch, hence the surprise. But the main problem is that being rear-engined, having a de-dion rear axle (non-indepentent suspension) and weighing so little up front, it snaps away suddenly and tries to pendulum around. But it's made worse by the stability control, which has a slight delay in responding and consequently takes action once the driver has already corrected. This is why it gets a tank slapper on. The driver corrects the slide, and then the ESP does the same, making it counter-slide. So you have to correct back, and the ESP does the same again.
My Z4 has three times the power of the Smart, and I drive it harder, and yet I've never even been close to something as pant-filling as a moment in the Smart.

Zod i know you are a stickler for proper spelling and grammar so i was just wondering if your Psots and limes are some form of the English language that are waiting to be discovered?
What's happened to education in this country? A grown man ignorant of the meaning of "psots" and "limes", I ask you! Ive done that a few times then you re read what you have written and realise you were talking total bollox, but Zod is a solicitor so i guess he was just busy.
Have you ever met one that isn't?
Doc I'm really looking forward to the new M3 launch mainly because i have good feeling that BMW are going to come up with goods in every department STYLING INCLUDED.
Imo a lot of people will end up eating there words when they see it in the metal.
My only disappointment might be the price at around 48k without the options your talking a very nice 996 turbo,GT3 or a 1 year old LHD 997S.
I wont be buying anything though until i see and drive it.

Heard about this new M3 recently and having seen the (great) video, really like it, esp the V8 as it pulls away.
I think its a safe guess the wheels will be pretty special, and the thought of 400bhp in that bodyshell sounds good. Currently have the 645ci and after nearly 25 years of Audis (RS incl) the 645 a real eye-opener. Would be good if they drop this M3 power plant into the 6-series. Styling is all very subjective.
Cheers

they do have a bigger version of the new M3 engine in the M6 already and you can get a six month old one at a bargain price you know......I think its a safe guess the wheels will be pretty special, and the thought of 400bhp in that bodyshell sounds good. I thought the Cab was pushing it a bit away from hardcore sports but a touring would just take the p*ss.
Not sure I agree. Ok, maybe it shouldn't get an M3 badge, but why should someone be denied that wonderful engine just because they need more than two doors?
