Performance wise how will it fare against the current 997/997s?
Chassis wise its going to have to be a lot better than the current M3 to be giving the 997 a good run.Now i know these two cars aren't a direct match but a 997 is what I'm thinking of next.
Any thoughts?

That looks mean in the video!

Weird hearing a v8 rumble from an M3 though. Roll on delivery next summer

I'm guessing with 425bhp it's going to be 911TT quick?

Don't like it at all. I still prefer the current shape M3. I really don't like the new style of the 3 series - it's too big and not aggressive enough.

Couldn't agree more - bad looking car

It looks very 6 series-ish.

Which isn't necessarily a good thing. scratchchin

Opinion reserved until I see one with decent rims (it seems that all new BMWs at the moment are very wheel-dependant)

Used to aspire to own an M3 - formerly a top, top car. Now, just too common, no different to the standard fayre and driven by losers.

What a load of crap, especially coming from a Vauxhall fanatic!

Whatever you think of BMW, it cannot be said that it has not led the way in the sports saloon/coupe sector. The original M cars were a rocket up the arse for many marques (Audi, Merc). The soon to be superseded E46 M3 was never bettered by its rivals (for a 3.2 6 cylinder) and I'm sure the new one will be terrific too. And the M3 CSL was BMW at it's very best.

Regarding the latest M3, I think it looks pretty good. Though, I'm not sure it will better the muscular and handsome E46 M3 in the looks department.

Edited to add: apologies to rob for calling him a Vauxhall fanatic. I got you mixed up with V8 EOL, who is.

I just find people posting 'chav' this, 'chav' that tiresome.

Rob05, apologies again, I didn't spot the sarcasm in your post. My comments were aimed at V8EOL, as I thought he was talking bollox.

It surely will be a rocket (can't wait for a new CSL) and the styling works much better in the M version than the more than bland regular car...

I'm sure it'll be quick, not 911TT quick (probably too heavy) but maybe about as quick as a standard 911.

It just a shame its so ugly. I really do not like the new 3 series, and the new M3 does little to improve on it in my opinion.

I think the current M3 looks much better.

If what people think or perceive you to be from the car you drive is so important to you, what do you feel Vauxhall says about you may I ask? People in glass houses as they say...
