Z4 - What have you had in the boot?
Discussion
There's a picture on the Porsche site of a Cayman stuffed full of gear to give the impression that it is practical as well as sporty. I was curious, as a potential new Z4 owner, to know what those of you who have one have managed to squeeze in the back.
Roadster is my preference, but I'd be interested to hear from Coupe owners too.

Cool,
I'm basically looking for ammunition to convince the fiance it's a semi-sensible car! Since there's only the two of us and we also have Saab 9-3 cab I don't think the lack of seats is an issue, but it would be good to be able to get a reasonable amount in the boot should we decide to venture further afield.

I'd be confident in saying that the Z4 is easily upto transporting everything it's two passengers would need for a conventional trip, even for long breaks. Obviously hang-gliding might be a problem (probably not parasailing though), but otherwise it's pretty good.
I use my Z4 (roadster) for fairly frequent trips to the Lakes with some friends. The most I've had in the boot is a couple of large sports bags of clothes, an Xbox and it's equipment in it's bag, a projector in it's bag, a pair of climbing boots, a crate of Warsteiner and some general travel stuff (hi-vis coat, tyre pump, etc.). That filled the boot to the top, but the roof box wasn't pushed up (naturally, the roof has to be able to come down!).
In fact one of the other guys who goes up there with me takes his Boxster and the capacity is similar but in a different way. The Boxster probably has slightly more volume, but it's split in two and in fairly arkward shapes, so it's pretty much comparable with the Z4. In fact a couple of MINI's go too, and they can only manage the same amount of equipment with the rear seats down. Tell her that one, it should work!

Clothes for 2 weeks, camping gear - tent 2 sleeping bags etc, decent camera gear (digi SLR + 2 lenses), a few bottles of wine - without resorting to using the "expansion" and having to drive roof up.
I used to have an MX-5 and managed a 3 week tour of France post Le Mans two-up, the Z4 has a 50% bigger boot (brochure says "up to 260 litres" - presumably roof up, hmmm).
If things are really tight, I have found extra space around the battery. Don't forget the (central locking - lockable) centre console that has a useful amount of space, less if you have a multi-changer. I think I am right in saying that cars with low-spec stereos have decent cubbys where the woofers are (behind the seats).
A surprisingly practical sports car!

Yuo can get loads in this cars boot, roof up or down, there is a little shelk that must be down for roof to be dropped but there is very little difference in what you can get in the boot, remember this is a cabrio that was designed as such therefore you don't steal boot space to drop the roof, i went to Le Mans for 5 days with a full compliment of cmping gear and stuff for two blokes, then still brought back a good few bottles of cheap French wine, it's quite amazing for the type of car it is, this is one fantastic little sports car all round...

Seriously can golf bag fit in boot of Z4 roadster?
I believe the literature says that you can fit TWO sets of golf clubs in the boot, but I'd be dubious about that:-)

I have a Z4C - it has runflats, so therefore no spare wheel. I've taken it away on holidays and never had any problem in fitting in everything I need, and I'm not known for travelling light! I've just come back from a week long trip to France and even with 2 smallish suitcases, we found room for 15 bottles of wine and various other bits and peices. I also travel frequently for work - so often have a case that can carry a weeks worth of work and casual clothes, a laptop and a couple of coats, and there is still plenty of space to spare.
I can't speak for the other models, but the Z4C is like a tardis!

wow .. is it tight to put it in and out? currently I'm considering getting Z4 roadster and play golf lots !!
I've had a set of golf clubs in the boot and a trolley. You need to remove the drivers due to the length, but apart from that it's fairly easy. My golf bag is deliberately not one of those huge oversize ones. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
