this threads still going strong, ...... 140+ pages of puuurreee bmw awesomeness...... i picked up a new DSLR, pulled the car out and took some pics......
this thread is imo the definitive spot to come for bmw porn!! lol, enjoy....

the new bits on the car since the last pics are custom billet oil catch breather system with billet dip stick for easy checking, Kevlar hosing, meth/water injection, BSM hardtop, billet dipstick and lastly the oem bmw aero side-skirts which literally changed the look of the car, very pleased with them.

Nice to see someone going for less than massive wheels for a change. This is what I'm thinking of doing to mine.
the downsize has been a win win, imo better looks, much more exclusivity ( aggressive track biased alignment needed to run these) cheaper tyres, better ride.. i did love my old oem 19" CSLs but i got so bored of seeing every other bmw with either CSLs or Reps of them.... i did love them but with how i use my car and the boredom of them i decided to make it a head choice move and go back to an 18" rim, its been a really good move and although the pics never do the wheels justice the detail and look of them is incredible up close and in the flesh....

Lovely, looks better than CSLs - is this a proper M?
its real rover.... with some spice... made 520hp on its last pump fuel only dyno. its a centrifugal blower so it basically feels like I've removed the s-6 and fitted larger motor... throttle response, etc has not changed one bit... Tq curve and HP curve were identical to a stock s54 just higher up the graph.... alot higher.... this is what i LOVE most about this kit, you still need to rev it to get it moving, blower is abit noisy at times but i can still hear that lovely mechanical s54 doing its thing... would i do this again??? NO.... but I've owned this car for nearly 7 years now.... i can't let i go... so am happy to keep pushing it a little further... everything needed to support this power level has been addressed, long road.... but fun too.... i do understand your concerns however.

Aye, but they're still not going to offer QUITE the response you get from a finely balanced naturally aspirated straight six... this particular installation looks to be pretty good (what's the difference between a centrifugal blower and the conventional Rootes type, btw?), but I think if I had one I'd leave it well alone... has it honestly got the traction to put down 520bhp? How does the extra power affect your ability (if at all) to have fun in it at non-license-losing speeds?
heres a graph for Vt2 s/c unit on the s54... (shown in Wheel HP) take a look at the stock curves Vs the blown ones.. basically mirrors up and sticks it higher up the graph.... its a blast to drive.

take a look at this video and the caparisons between each blower type... (2.58 is the centri explanation)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXVyweyoPfE

Traction on street tyres can be a problem but tbh its very very easy to metre out since boost is built by revs....,you can have fun with the car on the street short shifting and you can still get a move on, ring it out and it becomes uncomfortable quickly and tbh rather dangerous. Drive sensibly you can't even tell its tuned, drivability is fantastic and completely docile when you want, mid range and top end is nothing short of ballistic. Its been a long road but the car provides endless smiles and fun, best enjoyed on a circuit, i was brought up watching sprints/hill climbs so i wanted to create something for that arena, the car hasn't disappointed and everyone the rides in at is left breathless.... However on the flip side its taken alot of mods/work/testing to get it all working to the standard it is now.... Semi slicks are a must.

great fun (here on my home sprint circuit, curborough sprint course)

Having been taken for a spin last summer in a supercharged CSL I can confirm it was a pretty eye-opening experience! The replacement of induction roar with massive charger whine was a bit weird too, although it wouldn't be for me on the whole
i wouldn't go this route on a CSL.... but for the z4m it seemed like a great way to jump into major league performance. that s54 sound overlaid with blower noise sounds to me, incredible. In-fact if you go to page one of this very thread you'll see this car from when i first purchased it with around 900 miles on the clock :-)

No induction noise and anywhere near full power is simply dangerous? That's pretty much convinced me it's not such a smart idea... it used to be that anything over 100bhp/ton was a quick car!
luckily it wasn't you that needed convincing :-)

compared the the stock s54, the induction noise is unchanged, maybe even a little louder, compared to a CSL setup to would be quieter , in terms of the power, slightly overkill but the way the power is delivered makes it so much fun but performance is definitely in the major league now, care must be taken, but then doesn't that go with any decently power rear driver?

For ME, its made an awesome car even better, team that will a pristine car that I've owned pretty much all its life, to me, its irreplaceable :-)

thank for all the comments and views peeps.... always appreciated :-)

Oh, of course! I've just been mulling a possible S54 swap into my E39 and whether to s/c it... I understand you can also stroke 'em out to 3.5 litres which helps on the torque front...
you can but the cost is huge.... the s54 really responds well to boost, iron block, forged internal stock, its like a german 2JZ.... before you knock the idea try and get a ride in a blown s54 car, so so so impressive.

took mine for a run today and got some much better pics!! lovely to spend the afternoon with her :-) Hardtop is now off, was frantically knocking on neighbours for a hand to take it off before i set off but sadly no-one in!! sadly Photobucket has murdered the quality of these... 18s was one of the best choices I've made... the car looks beautiful in the flesh, somehow not represented in the pics to well......

I bet that takes no prisoners?
How has the supercharger affected the sound of the s54, I had a z3mcoup with the s54 engine and it was probably the best sounding car iv driven.
hey buddy, its very serious machine and is quicker than most things i encounter tbh, at the sprint track it punches well into the big boy times too..... the sound of the s54 is 100% intact compared to the STOCK car, the blower is not intrusive at all, the impeller blades are actually trimmed in a certain way to to keep out unwanted noise, however some still makes it into mix, but its enough to complement not over bare. i love it.

Heres a clip of the noise.

Why is it that people feel the need to tell everyone their age? The 330Ci is fantastic, but it's no more or less fantastic because you are 20 and all it does is result in posts about insurance etc etc etc.
