Car is an 09 335i M Sport Saloon so I doubt it's under warranty.

Why wouldn't it be? I've always extended the warranty on my used BMWs.

Best get in touch with Simon ASAP then. biggrin

Although I've mentioned him twice, I have no affiliation with him, I just rate his services highly.

How strong is the 335i motor? Meaning, will it take tons of boost like a 2JZ-GTE or an RB26DETT?

There are a few companies getting 400 - 450 bhp from them. The newer M135i and M3 engine is slightly different. I think the numbers are N54 and N55. Alpina still use the older twin turbo swtup in there new M3 rival the B3 BiTurbo. I think the newer engine has a twin scroll single turbo or something like that.

I beg to differ regarding the angel-eye headlights vs the earlier ones. The earlier ones have bigger reflectors and work better than the angel-eyes ever did... and the V8 does steer better than the six ever did, even when it was asnearasdammit new...
There must have been something awry with your 6 cylinder then as it's widely acknowledged that the six steers better - the weight distribution is slightly better and it has rack and pinion versus recirculating ball steering. Even the M5 with Servotronic doesn't quite have the steering of the 6 pot.

You are being very harsh on the poor 530i lately! It deserves rather more credit than you care to give it hehe

I bought my new E46 about 5/6 weeks ago and to be honest I'm ever so slightly in love with it!!!

I sold this.... (E36 328i individual convertible in Techno Violet)

and have bought this.... (E46 330ci Sport convertible - Auto gearbox in Topaz Blue)

Which I've already started tinkering with and currently sits like this....

Suspension is next on the list smile

Thank you. I sold it with a heavy heart, but since I've owned the E46 I honestly haven't looked back.

I love that E36 and I can't imagine many nowadays look as good as that.

The E46 is looking good, especially with the CSL wheels. Are they reps?

Thought so as they weren't quite as "dished" as the OEM's. Still look good though mate and I bet it saved you a fair amount of money also.

I never had a 530i. 520i 2.2 Touring and 535i saloon. There isn't anything awry with the six other than the engine and some cosmetics, it's fine, but the R&P is a bit numb compared to the recirculating ball - the latter is a bit more feelsome. Granted, the V8 is more prone to understeer, but I've found it easy to develop a technique to neutralise that tendency. I just feel more confident driving the V8. The 520i has, mechanically, been a total and utter pain in the arse and it's an absolute bd to fix the latest problem (knackered valve stem oil seals) - over three grand in labour to fix the existing engine, or about two and a half to replace it with a secondhand replacement (which could throw the same problem again), all thanks to bloody VANOS. If anyone wants to buy it as a project or parts donor, PM me...

I'm afraid it is. It's not just hooking it up, it's getting the damn thing to talk to the electronics, which isn't as simple as that as a plug-and-play. Fixing the existing engine would involve a massive dismantling of the head, VANOS etc, then replacing the seals, then putting the whole lot back together, recalibrating the VANOS etc...
