My 1998 318is fresh from a major service, full valet & now with a new MOT.
Failed MOT last week so was faced with a stark choice - scrap her & walk away with £100, sell her on eBay to someone who would probably turn the car into a track day car.
Or spend some money.
So I chose the latter. Cost me £1100 for a major service, new tyres all round, new cat, suspension work & other odds & sods.
I'm happy & she looks for good for a 17 year car that was recently described by a PH'er as a 'Jurassic era piece of junk!!!!'.

How refreshing to see someone spending money keeping a car on the road rather than leasing a poverty Citroen for £99 a month!Failed MOT last week so was faced with a stark choice - scrap her & walk away with £100, sell her on eBay to someone who would probably turn the car into a track day car.

Thank you.
I did consider p/ex'ing her a couple of months ago however I didn't know what I wanted, couldn't find anything that really floated my boat altough i did (briefly) consider an MG-ZT......
However i soon got talked out of that!!!!!
I looked at a couple of E46's however none really appealed to me as although they looked good in the photos, & on initial inspection, I had no idea what horrors might have been lurking under the shine.
Having owned this E36 for a number of years I knew what she was like so I bit the bullet, handed her over to my trusted garage & left them to do what needed to be done.
And here, £1100 later, is the result.
I am well chuffed to have her back.

Brought this today. Bucking the modern trend a little as its a full fat 650i rather than a 640d. Drove both models and the diesel is impressive but the biturbo v8 is in another league. Fully loaded bar soft close doors. Just got to fix the exhaust as its to muffled stock.
Beautiful. I love the 6er. lance1a said:
I bought this a year ago after it had been stood for four years. The roof didn't work, the rear wheel bearing was shot, the trailing arm bushes had come apart, the gear linkage would stick when hot (only the linkage though meaning the slider in the lower valve body was knackered), the rear seat was knackered, the paint was pink.......anyway. I still need to do some work to get it 100% but it's almost there. Spec is rare for such an early car. M52 single Vanos 2.5L, electric roof, aircon Analogue), electric sport seats, cruise control, eight speaker sound, Clifford alarm, drivers airbag, full tools, first aid kit, complete service history with invoices and stamps, 89000 miles.
Well done for bringing this back to life S800VXR said:

Spot on and would love a 650i I like most things about our 640d apart from the engine and the engine always makes the car so I have no doubt that you will love it. The 650i is a lovely rare car too.
