The want is very strong with all of these! On the topic of my 535i, no more pics to post, it's filthy as usual (too much country lane mileage and no time to wash it), but has just sailed through another MOT. New cats (at a fraction of the main dealer price, thanks to the ever-reliable MJF Engineering of Beare Green) have rather robbed it of its hitherto comically loud snarl accelerating past 2t00rpm... may investigate ways of getting the noise back!

Very nice! Have you got an aftermarket exhaust on it?
They are Eurostyle stainless steel tips only. My stock tips were corroded and I could not clean them up so decided to bin them and get new tips via cutters forum. New tips on left, old on right:

I think the E46 M3 is the only stock exhaust I wouldn't tamper with, the sound is just right

Sadly I will have to sell it this summer
That's a shame, why? If I had space I'd take it off your hands, but I think a tidy E30 needs a dry garage, which I don't have...robbiekhan said:

The stock exhaust is extremely heavy and inefficient. A really good aftermarket job saves a lot of weight and frees up a fair few horses... this makes for interesting reading: http://www.rogueengineering.com/rogue/E46M3/RE_DIA...jimboe39540i said:
Thanks guys for the comments.
It's a 325i Sport, Tech 1 version. I restored it over 2 years to get a mint shell and full respray and all decals re-done, it's pretty much prefect now. Full leather, LSD etc etc.

Shame you have to sell, but I would imagine you'll have no problem shifting it on for a decent price such is the demand for the 325i nowIt's a 325i Sport, Tech 1 version. The power gains stated are with extra bolt-ons and part swaps plus the remap to account for those bits. A simple remap alone and airbox swap can account for similar power gains from everything I've read and been shown too. While the stock exhaust is indeed heavy, it is heavy by design, not because it is inefficient, but because that's how it is. It does not produce a "deeper sound" like the Rogue, it's meant to be subdued just cruising around town and only opens up when you open the throttle up - Pretty much exactly what M cars have been all about and the stock E46 M3 sound is 100% unique. My personal opinion is that I want it to stay that way, the sound is exotic, changing it with an aftermarket exhaust removes that character about it.
I've also seen the youtube videos of the ElDiablo, it sounds like most other aftermarket exhausts, deeper but muffled drone when revving. Each to their own of course and I'm not saying nobody should change to one, but for me, I like what BMW did with the stock exhaust, it is just right for the car and stands out from all other than sound the same.
I'd sooner spend money on a carbon airbox + accompanying map to gain an even more exotic noise on WOT and some more power that comes with it.

Yeah, I can't comment on the sound aspect, but I've read so many articles that have criticised the stock exhaust for being heavy and inducing significant back pressure... the CSL carbon airbox is definitely worth it for sound alone, though. A lot of people don't seem to realise that sound is about intake more than it's about exhaust...

Couldn't agree more that's why I loved the sound my old e92 M3's made, a beautiful induction roar, its been lost in a world of farty contrived AMG and Jag exhausts sadly. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
