Agree and now they have also given the 420d the same exhaust set up as the 435d, so if its de badged and you were following it you wouldn't know what model it was either, I personally think its poor form from BMW that the 435d isn't set apart from a 420d and the 435d should have the same exhaust set up as the 435i for me.
Thats crazy, I agree 100% there should be some differentiation on the exhaust set up between the various engine ranges on these cars.

What's next? A 416D with a quad exhaust as standard. I wouldn't be absolutely shocked given the number of M badges plastered all over non M models nowadays!

Back in a BMW after a couple of years in a Type R, this is my 335i. smile
Always thought those wheels suited that so much.

Nice car.
Wondering what a set of those might look like on my Z3...

Absolutely. I ordered my 435d with badges deleted and didn't do much research. I expected the same exhaust layout as the 435i.

Then it arrived at about the same time as my mate's 320d 'Efficient Dynamics' which also had twin exhausts.

I've had the badge put back on.

I know it shouldn't bother me, and I spend more time sat in the inside lane at around 72mph being overtaken by company car drivers in a 2 litre diesel in various stages of tune than I do proving to people it's not a sub 200bhp diesel, but for some reason it annoys me.

If it was me I would have done what you have and put the badge back on too thumbup I would like to know why BMW chose not to give the 435d the same set up as the 435i though and in the past the 335d has always had a different exhaust set up to keep it apart from the rep special 320d.

It'll be because of the X drive and space.

That pesky X drive! not only do you get a sky high standard ride height and a massive gap between the wheels and arches...they give you a poor exhaust set up to go with it!

Disclaimer...I do still love the 435d though. smile

Could be a packing issue with RHD but it's not because of xdrive alone witness the xdrive 340i and Alpina allrad cars.

I get where you're coming from, but who would you rather be, the guy in the 420d with the purely ceremonial pipes or the guy in the 435d with the real grunt? The uninitiated will be clueless, of course, but you'll always know that you've got the go beneath your right foot. I've always admired those people who buy their x40s, x50s or M cars debadged just to put a £5 x20d replacement from eBay on. biggrin

It's a bit sad though that BMW put M badges on cars that have no business wearing them. Much the same of Mercedes with their frivolous AMG badging. To my mind it dilutes what is supposed to be an exclusive, aspirational brand. Then again, I suppose it's sad in and of itself that things like a BMW 114i or BMW 316i Sport exists. /grumpyoldman

Yes I agree that with the 435d you do still have the smoother/quicker/more powerful engine over the 420d, I suppose I have always been a bit of an exhaust sad case and with the E9x 335d/i I always just liked the one exhaust each side set up as I thought it not only looked good but placed it visually over the lesser models too.

Here's my old nail:

328i manual, non-sunroof. Low miles and owners but does have some worn rear tyres so it likes to go very sideways smile

I have big plans for it...

My 435d has black grills... It's not as easy to tell as it used to be.

I was under the impression that all new LCI M Sport models have a black grill irrespective of engine size?

Thanks, will do. Thinking:

- 15" wheels and 205 section tyres
- new springs, dampers, bushes etc
- Z3 rack and new steering wheel
- slip diff
- engine manifold upgrade and engine chip
- shorter final drive
- new discs, pads and fluid
- more supportive front seats
- full cavity waxing
- cross brace
- harder engine mounts etc.

It will look completely standard but should be harder, faster and good fun on the road. Lighter than an M3 and more subtle - a great budget 'GT car'.

These are the optional 16" with 225 section tyres all round. I think some narrower tyres can only improve things. Maybe find some old alloys or even some steels with hubcaps...

Yes I believe they do now whereas in the past the 6 cylinder cars had chrome slats and the 4 cylinder cars had black slats.

I love the 335 twin turbo especially with the 313 alloys that come as part of the LCI updgrade... trouble is the cost of the run flats is so high when it comes to replacing the tyres. Anyone own an m sport with these particular alloys? How much have you paid for your tyres and how many miles did you get out of them?

Nice, looks like it's a bit lower than standard already, maybe Eibach Pro Kit or H&R Sport? Otherwise there'd be mad front arch gap. And the chrome exhaust tips look nice and clean too smile

Pretty sure it is standard suspension...certainly does not feel sharp at all! The exhaust tips are very shiny...The previous owner spent more time cleaning than driving it I think!
