That's a very lovely 5,6 and 7 set indeed.Which engine is in the 745i? I'm guessing turbo M30 and not M88/3 as it's left hand drive.
Thanks , the motor is an M106 which is a 3.5 turbo that is similar to the M30. It came from California and had emissions junk installed that made it run like crap. I removed all that stuff and set it up correctly using an air fuel ratio gauge, It now pulls like a train. I need to send it in for paint. The M5 has low compression on cylinder #3 so I'm going to pull the head sometime this year and see what's going on. Even with the low compression, it's a lot of fun to drive.
This is pretty much how all my cars are... not so nice versions of nice cars, but i'll get them there
The 7 series is a really nice car. Most of my other cars are Mercedes Benz from the 70-90's which was the era when Mercedes Benz made the most well built cars in the world. While the 5 and 6 series are amazing drives, they're flimsy when compared to a W126 S class.
The 7 series feels every bit as well built. It also has full buffalo hide interior which is quite tasty. Go take one for a drive.

The Active Tourer is NOT a BMW, whatever the badges festooned all over it say... the only excusable reason for buying one is to destroy it on the banger track or whatever...
It is a BMW. Quite a reasonable one given its remit. Big shame it's not RWD and 6 cylinder, but at least it's not another suv. I would much rather have one than a X3/X4
It may be because I drove a Luxury Spec Active Tourer and I'm used to M Sports, but I found it suffered from body roll and didn't handle at as well as any BMW SUV I've driven.
You can't really see the bonnet from any decent driving position and adjusting the wheel, at least best position for me, meant I had difficulty reading the instruments. I don't like the looks and if you look at this picture, the way the driver's side window splits, that pillar (if that's the term) is ruinous for visibility, say when looking to the side driving around a crowded city street.
I wasn't so conscious about it FWD (it's never going to be a coupe) but the one I drove (mercifully only the once) was a 4 cylinder petrol and the turbo just didn't feel that smooth or responsive. BMW's Diesels are much better.

With respect Sir, you drove an unfamiliar car once in what sounds like an incorrect driving position; and you say it's not as good as much more expensive SUVs in the range...mmm ok.
The looks don't do it for me either but I've never had a problem with visibility and why would you want to see the bonnet? You just see more of the road. I don't really see the bonnet in the E36 except for the area around the washer nozzles.
There's going to be a bit of body roll because it's a tall hatch so the centre of gravity will be higher relative to the X5s own centre. My little family aren't really affected by body roll anyway.
IMO it's extremely fit for purpose and it's nice to have an option of a BMW for our needs rather than going for a qashqai or Picasso etc.

You're right about not being able to see the clocks though! The looks don't do it for me either but I've never had a problem with visibility and why would you want to see the bonnet?
