That colour E46 looks superb! but what colour interior best suits it I wonder, dark cream I reckon.

She hasn't been washed in 2 weeks!

Yup.

I've had one, it wasn't big enough, didn't have enough ground clearance, was too soft and not fast enough.

Perhaps if that occupies your mind so much when out driving you should focus on something else, because you're just reinforcing the stereotype of rusty old E39s being driven badly by d*ckheads....

The X3 is no bigger inside. It's also just as soft (if not more so) and slower than a 3-series. Yes, I happen to find oversized (especially excessively tall/wide) cars - and most especially the hideous BMW SUVs - offensive (and if I can't see round them, that's simply bloody dangerous). Also, my E39s are completely rot-free, and will soon be treated to some cosmetic work to bring them back up to scratch visually.

If you can't see round them, you're too close biggrin

Sometimes one needs to be able to overtake, which means starting to accelerate in one's own lane before pulling out so as to minimise the time spent on the wrong side of the road...

thanks smile I'm really loving this car. Got plenty of poke and although it has the dreaded N53B30 which reported issues on the HPFP, injectors and coil packs, it has been great so far. I contacted Sytner who serviced this car since new and they confirmed that just 18 months ago all those parts have been replaced for the upgraded parts so I should be fine.

It does burn a little oil though, but most 6 pot bimmers do.

Only downside is the jarry ride and ever road around me has mad speed bumps. Not somethign i cosidered when getting this car! I just loved the looks.

I think ditching the run flats will help, so that's next on the list.

Yes the runflats will be firming up the ride but even with go flats it will still be firm with profiles as low as those.

been doing some research on this and been told to keep the same profile but go a stage wider. so instead of 225/255 go for 235/265. It would straighten out the side walls as they are pretty stretched as standard.

I'll live with it for now. It's far from terrible, but when the time comes i'll make the change

Going wider will make the circumference bigger, the sidewall thicker and the weight of the tyre more.

The other option you have is going up a profile from 225 35 19 to 225 40 19.

That will give you a 3.5% speedo error, which is a lot more than going up to a 235/35 R19 (1%).

Yes, that is Donington last year. I was there last week also.
Great car, can't get enough of it.

One last time...... rolleyes
As you've obviously never owned one or appear to have even ridden in one let me help with some of your inaccuracies about the X3. Over 13 years I've owned two 3 series touring and am on my third X3 so I have quite a lot experience of the cars you're trying to tell me about.
Firstly, I can categorically tell you that the X3 is much bigger inside than a 3 series - you may be confusing your perceptions with an X1 which is loosely based on a 3 series shell, but in reality it's actually virtually the same size inside as a 3 touring.
Secondly the E83 Sport I owned first was much firmer than the 3 I had before that. My current car has VDC, but even the comfort setting is no softer than a 3.
Finally - Slower? yes, but only if you've got an M3 or a mapped 335d...... wink
