im going to the bmw rolling road day on 21st June, and i was just wondering how much power i should be expecting from my E36 316

its 10 years old now so i dont know how much it would have lost from its original 103 bhp (haha that sounds pathetic)

and its completely standard

i think im aiming for the lowest power car of the day prize lol

but yer i was just wondering so i dont end up getting there and being disapointed smile

cheers

It depends on the rolling road and your car was never likely to actually make its specified power, even when new.
Rolling roads are ideal for comparison readings whether it is between cars or the same car between mods so don't be too disappointed.
Prep your car before you go, change your oil and filter and check all other levels. Plugs and air / fuel filters OK?
Adjust tyre pressures too.

As an example, my E34 M5 3.8 was specified at 340 bhp. It only made 298 bhp but after I reprogrammed the ECU I got a max of 342 but with a nasty dip at 4500 rpm. I did it again to smooth it out and ended up with 338. So to get specified bhp the car had to be chipped.

My guess is 90bhp at the crank.

but rolling roads are the power that actualy gets to the wheels but the bhp stated for the car is taken straight from the engine. Is it not???

so the car could have been RRed as new and wouldnt of had the 103hp stated.

I think.

Sort of.

The rolling road measures the power at the wheels but on the overrun, calculates the transmission power loss, then adds this to the rear wheel power to get the crank output.

This way you will get the same engine power output but your rear wheel horsepower can be greatly affected by tyres, tyre pressures, transmission oil etc.

So, you will get both rear wheel and engine power output.

just dragging this thread back up, but i got it dyno'd at surrey rolling road and the output was . . .

wait for it

112bhp

A pleasant surprise. Before i took it i changed the plugs, oil, filters and was running on super unleaded. Fueling is perfect too. Just trying to get rid of it now to raise funds for my new car. apparently the market for it isnt too good at the moment?
